We are all back at it!! School is in session!☀️

A super busy week leading up to Fall Break. We celebrated a sweet girls 5th birthday, we prepared food, we played and crafted, read and sang and shared a wonderful meal. I’m so grateful for these little humans and their families!

Sunshine House Montessori is running a coat drive. So while you are going through your closets to make room for new gear let us take the old, worn stuff off of your hands. The warm layers must be clean but not necessarily new, they may not have holes, rips or stains. Other than that the coats, jacket, sweaters, blankets, etc will be donated to the Alpha Project and directly benefit the homeless population here in San Diego. Please DM me if you have a donation. With the weather getting cooler anything is much appreciated. Thank you all. Peace and Kindness!

This year instead of “the Thanksgiving Story” I am choosing to share Indigenous people’s stories and art. To talk about the fact that these people are not in history alone. I will probably not do this correctly this year. I have a lot to learn as a person and a teacher still about decolonizing Thanksgiving and brining that into the school, but this is the step I feel I can do. I can read! It’s how much of our learn and lessons start at the school. If anyone has a book they think I could add to my growing library I would love recommendations. The best part about sharing stories is that we can share them anytime of the year, not only in November. So that’s my first step this year as a person, a teacher, a human and hopefully a better ally (one step at a time) is to read and share stories. This week has been full of geography lessons, election education and fine-motor strength! We voted on our favorite fruits, learned how a mortar and pestle work and sang lots of songs about kindness and the power it holds. ☀️💛

This week we practiced putting in our own socks and shoes, properly blowing our noses, washing our hands, zippering, buttoning and in general care of self! We also noticed color mixing and learned about primary and secondary colors. What a wonderful week of discovery and learning.

Started our week talking about Peace and what that means. Then we collected items from nature to use in two fun art projects. The first project we did was with Sun Paper and we made negative spaces on our papers using leaves, flowers and twigs. 🌿
