The Impact Linda Vista Initiative kicks off in 9th and 10th grade! Our students, in partnership with the University of San Diego, will be working on this project - brainstorming different ways to improve our communities, do work for the common good and transform Linda Vista in a sustainable way! We are excited to hear their ideas and see them get into action with the $10,000 grant! Thanks to Noel Noxy Musicha for the brilliant connection!

The Salk Institute is now accepting applications for their 2024 Heithoff-Brody High School Summer Scholars Program, an 8-week paid internship for high school students to gain real-life experience performing scientific research. Students will be mentored by Salk scientists and have the opportunity to work in a Salk lab in one of their research areas, while also participating virtually in seminars, workshops, data analysis projects, and other enrichment activities. At the end of the program, students will present their research projects to an audience of their mentors, lab members, and families.

This year, there are two additional internship positions – one on the Salk Communications team and another in the Office of Technology Development – for students interested in supporting research from “behind the scenes.” The program is scheduled to take place from Monday, June 17th to Friday, August 9th.

To Apply – The application can be found on the Salk Institute website and must be submitted by Friday, April 5th. Salk will conduct 3 application workshops for students on the dates listed below to review the application process. 🌲 Cultivating Nature | BST Greenhouses 🏡

After years of neglect, you may have noticed that the Greenhouses in of the 700s Courtyard got revitalized. Ms. Fee in the E2E Lab has a few spots in a Medical Terminology course (about 4) that meets online on Tuesdays 4/1-6/8 from 4:30-6:00. This course is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in going into the medical field. It is also articulated credit so you don't need to worry about a unit enrollment cap.  This course can lead to the CNA path, but it doesn't have to. You could use this course to beef up your college app and/or get more exposure to the medical field!

Ms. Fee will be having a lunch meeting about the course on Monday (2/5) if you are interested! Drop her an email at [email protected] for more information.

For those interested in our Certified Nurses Assistant Program (CNA): If anyone wants information to plan for their futures as a CNA, you can come to the lunch meeting on Monday as well. This is a great step towards a nursing career, as nursing programs are highly competitive, and this gives you the "leg up" when applying for nursing school, EMTs, and/or any other medical training you may be interested in. Graduate from Kearny as a CNA and be workforce-ready. See you there!
