Having some fun on with a delicious tropical tipple. Today I’m pairing the unique strawberry flavor of with sweetened condensed milk, banana liqueur, fresh lime and chocolate bitters in a drink I call “La Chica Fresa”. Anyone who’s a fan of corridos and banda music ( ) will likely recognize the name, as it pays homage to one of the most famous songs in this genre. Basically, the song’s about a very picky girl who likes to order off the menu…you could say she’s high maintenance, but I like to think she just knows what she wants. Hey, if I ordered this cocktail at a bar, perhaps I would get a raised eyebrow from the bartender too…luckily, I can make it for myself at home.😂 Viva La Chica Fresa!!! 🍓🙋♀️
Much lower maintenance than its clarified counterpart, the traditional milk punch is a comforting combination of spirits, milk, sugar and vanilla. I find the key to making this drink truly exceptional is using quality vanilla in the recipe and today I’m really taking things up a notch! Thanks to the generous people at I was able to infuse this tropical variation on the classic with the highest quality vanilla bean paste from Madagascar and a premium vanilla sugar on the rim as well. This fantastic company offers a wide array of specialty vanilla products, ranging from pastes and extracts to sugars and salts. My whole family has been enjoying them in pancakes and French toast, while I’ve been putting them to good use in cocktails.😋 Next on the list is an ultimate Espresso Martini!!! Tahitian Milk Punch
- 1½ oz Appleton Estate Signature Rum
- ¾ oz Averna
- ¾ oz Tahitian Gold Vanilla Syrup*
- 2 oz Coconut Milk
Shake with ice and fine-strain into a chilled Nick & Nora glass that’s been partially rimmed with Tahitian Gold vanilla sugar. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.
*Prepare a cup of 1:1 demerara syrup, remove from heat and then whisk in ½ tsp of Tahitian Gold Bourbon Premium whole vanilla bean paste.

Last night I improvised a classic Trader Vic in honor of the new movie...a big difference from the cherry coke and sour patch kids I had while watching the original over two decades ago.😅 Luckily, I still had some leftover for today, but soon it’ll be finished! 🥷 🦂 (Sorry, I had to…🤣)

This , I’m sending all my love to the amazing people at . Throughout the nearly yearlong experience competing in , I found myself continuously blown away by the creativity, professionalism and love that emanated from the team behind this one-of-a-kind gin. From , who captivated us with molecular terminology that made science seem fun, to , who lovingly told us how much he hated a drink when he was really telling us it was awesome, to the massive group of dedicated members who worked behind the scenes to bring memorable experiences like MIB to life - not to mention the legends at for making all of it possible and for documenting the journey - each and every person I met along the way impressed me with their integrity, support and care. And to the 11 other finalists I had the honor of competing against...I’m genuinely humbled to have stood in your presence during those final challenges - you have my respect and my heart forever. Cheers to my favorite gin in the world...and my favorite gin advocates as well!🍸🥂
