AnatomySCAPES hit the road earlier this week to present some of our work at an intensive postoperative lymphatics course: Petra Erving’s Aftercare Academy!

It’s always so refreshing to be around other educators and practitioners who take this work so seriously! Petra even invited in a plastic surgeon to talk about liposuction and abdominoplasty in detail!

And guess what?

Tissue layers matter!

Tissue architecture matters!

Check out the slide from the surgeon here listing the same fascial layers that we focus on in the lab and all our courses. Fascia researchers are only one group who has been mapping out the collagen architecture of the subcutaneous tissues. Plastic surgeons are also mapping out these tissues.

If you are interested in postoperative MLD, definitely check out Petra’s training. Aftercare Academy | MLD & Post-Op Training

Where is our next road trip going to be!?! 🧐 Let us know if you have ideas!

Welcome to Fascia Summer Camp. ☀️

No bunk beds. No bug spray required. Singing around the campfire? Optional.

What is on the itinerary?

🎨 Arts & crafts—with an anatomical purpose.
Build the fascial matrix yourself and discover what happens when anatomy moves off the page and into your hands.

🔬 A virtual field trip to the dissection lab.
See fascia through beautiful videos of real human fascia from the anatomy lab. This is fascia as it actually exists in the human body—not as isolated structures, but as continuity, organization, connection, and relationship.

🧠 A different way to learn.
Traditional anatomy gives us an essential foundation: muscles, bones, organs, nerves—the structures we identify, name, and locate. But fascia asks something different of us.

Through multimodal learning, we’ll SEE it. FEEL it. CRAFT it. Using observation, exploration, and crafting to translate complex fascial architecture into something you can understand in three dimensions.

Because sometimes the best way to understand anatomy isn’t simply to memorize it.
It’s to craft it.

You already massage fascia every day.

The question isn't whether you've felt it.

It's whether you've learned to interpret what it's's telling you.

In this episode of the ABMP Podcast, fascia researcher Katja Bartsch helps us explore one of the most fascinating areas of connective tissue research today: the relationship between female hormones and fascia.

We discuss how hormones may influence collagen synthesis, tissue stiffness, inflammation, and the cells that build and maintain our fascial system—and why this emerging research matters to massage therapists, especially as we care for women through every stage of life.

The science is still evolving. The questions are becoming better. And understanding the biology behind what we feel with our hands helps us become better informed clinicians.

You can spend years studying anatomy... and still never really see fascia.

Not because it isn't there. But because it’s rarely represented in models, illustrations, or anatomy books.

Dissection changes everything.

In the dissection lab, fascia becomes impossible to ignore. As each layer is carefully separated, the body's connections become clearer.

The act of separation reveals connection.

You begin to see what anatomy books can never fully reveal. Where one tissue anchors while another glides. How collagen fibers are organized differently from one region to the next. Why patterns and textures aren't just beautiful—they reveal function.

And once you understand what you're seeing, your hands begin to recognize what they’ve been feeling in your clients too.

At AnatomySCAPES, we believe seeing real anatomy transforms touch.
Come see the body as it truly exists—connected, continuous, and alive with relationships.

Real anatomy. Connected understanding. Transformed touch.

Journey into the MATRIX begins this September.

🎙️NEW PODCAST EPISODE:

✨Hormones & Fascia✨

This is an important story unfolding right now in fascia research. Hormones are talking to the cells that build our fascia, and Dr. Katja Bartsch has been listening in on that conversation.

In our newest episode on The ABMP Podcast, and second in our series Meet the Researchers, Katja shares findings from recent research. Rachelle and Nicole discuss how the science translates to the treatment room, and why so many of our clients in midlife arrive at our massage tables with new pain and stiffness.

The research is early and the answers aren’t simple, but the questions are ones every bodyworker will want to hear.

The IT band is not a band.

It’s a continuous part of the fascia lata that envelops the entire thigh. Once you see that in the lab, you can’t unsee it. And it changes how you touch.

Fascia is like that everywhere. It isn’t a set of parts to memorize, it’s relationships and continuities. And it’s there in every session you do, skin to fat to deep fascia to bone, whatever your modality: every massage is a fascia massage.

These relationships are hard to learn from a diagram or a book. At AnatomySCAPES, we teach fascia using multimodal learning:

👀 SEE it. Real fascia, in images and video from our work in the dissection lab.
🤲 FEEL it. Guided self-palpation on your own body, one tissue at a time.
🧶 CRAFT it. Build a 3D model of fascia with your own hands.

🎉And now, KEEP it. Our webinar series Crafting the Fascial Matrix is available as a bundle:

🕸️ Session 1: The Matrix
🟡 Session 2: Superficial Fascia & Fat
💪 Session 3: Deep Fascia & Myofascia

Available now through August 31 ($59).

We didn't create Journey into the MATRIX because the world needed another anatomy course.

We created it because we believed there was another way to understand the body.

For centuries, anatomy has been taught by separating structures into individual parts. It's an effective way to identify anatomy—but not always the best way to understand how the body functions.

In the dissection lab, fascia invites a different perspective.

Instead of asking, "What is this?" we begin asking, "How is this connected?"

Relationships emerge. Textures reveal function. The body begins to make sense as an integrated whole rather than a collection of isolated parts.

That's why created the course Journey into the MATRIX: the Fascial System.
Not because fascia is another structure to memorize, but because it provides a framework for understanding how the body's tissues work together.

Every donor becomes our teacher. Every dissection reveals a new perspective. Every layer reminds us that the body was never meant to be understood one structure at a time.

At AnatomySCAPES, we believe observation transforms understanding. We don't just teach anatomy—we invite you to experience the whole connected body.

Real anatomy. Connected understanding. Transformed touch.

If you're ready to experience anatomy in a way that will change how you think, palpate, and practice, we'd love to welcome you into the lab to learn with us at AnatomySCAPES.

You’ve been feeling it for years. 🤲

The way everything under your hands is connected. The way muscles don’t feel exactly the way they are drawn in the books. Origins and insertions aren’t always as defined. Individual muscles aren’t always as distinct.

You may not have had a name for it or couldn’t picture it in your mind, but your hands knew.

Much of what you were feeling was deep fascia — the tissue that wraps and integrates every muscle, 💪 transmits the force of contraction, and is packed with sensory receptors coordinating movement. It’s why the tissue under your hands never felt quite as separate as the textbook said it should.

And you can’t learn it from a diagram.

At AnatomySCAPES, we teach it from images of REAL tissue, your own body, and a 3D model you build yourself. 🧵

Come see what your hands have known all along. 👀
