Professor Anna Marbut, among other MS-AAI and MS-ADS faculty, has led a groundbreaking initiative: using the OpenAI Assistant feature to build AI Teaching Assistants for USD students. These AIs are integrated via Slack, allowing students in our fully online, asynchronous programs to interact, ask questions, and learn in new and flexible ways.

The Teaching with ChatGPT Workshop, led by MS-AAI students Jonathan Long, Carlo Sanchez, and Lucas Young—under the guidance of Dr. Ebrahim Tarshizi (CDCS) and Dr. Andrew Van Benschoten—brought faculty from the Knauss School of Business together for a hands-on deep dive into generative AI in education.

From live prompting exercises to building custom GPT-powered quiz games, the session offered practical strategies for integrating tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Notebook LM into teaching and course design.

Faculty also engaged in important discussions on ethics, academic integrity, and how to design “AI-proof” assignments that encourage deeper learning and transparent AI use.
