Band/Music Teacher - Anticipated Vacancy for the 2024-2025 School Year at Barstow Unified | EDJOIN 05/03/2024

Hi, all! There's a band/music position opening up in Barstow! From what I understand, it's going to be Jr. High level, and there's great support from the school's admin. The current teacher (Shaina) is moving in order to further her education (not for any nefarious reasons 😁 ) https://www.edjoin.org/Home/JobPosting/1893129

Note from Shaina:
"I can provide more information about the position if needed but in summary we have an advanced band that does parade marching and concert band a color guard program that has a coach and the music teacher is just a supervisor, a choir class, a beginning band class and then I have a percussion class and a tv video class but those can be adjusted to meet the needs of the candidate. We have a class set of ukuleles if they wanted to do music appreciation and 16 pianos for a class piano if wanted. It’s a very supportive school they love the music program I’ve been here 9 years. I just want someone to come in and work with these great kiddos when I leave so if you don’t mind passing the message along you can even share my email shaina_greensweight -at- busdk12.com if anyone has questions. Thank you."

Next Wednesday and Thursday in PA 102!!!

The CSUSB Opera Theatre is excited to present its spring production and the US premiere of The Next Whisky Bar, a musical r***e conceived by Jay Turvey and Paul Sportelli featuring the music of Kurt Weill and some of his most iconic collaborators including Bertolt Brecht, Ira Gershwin, Maxwell Anderson and Alan Jay Lerner. The CSUSB Opera Theatre is now in its 17th season, having produced a rich and diverse repertoire of music theatre works that range from Mozart to Philip Glass and from Missy Mazzoli to Astor Piazzolla.

The Next Whisky Bar features some of Kurt Weill’s most famous songs which you will undoubtedly recognize (perhaps The Doors adaptation of “Alabama Song” will come to mind, or Bobby Darin’s rendition of “Mack the Knife” from Threepenny Opera). You will hear some lesser-known songs from Weill’s German period including the devasting “Nanna’s Lied” and the gorgeous “Tango Ballad” made legendary by the iconic pop star Cyndi Lauper and Broadway favorite Alan Cu***ng.

In addition to our diverse talented cast, the production features a six-piece professional band complete with banjo, drum set and accordion, in true CSUSB Opera Theatre style!

Come join us at The Next Whisky Bar and be ready to stomp your feet along with the cast and band in “The Bilbao Song”, reminisce about a past love in “September Song”, or daydream of paradise in Weill’s famous songs “Youkali” and “Lost in the Stars”. You don’t want to miss it!

Photos from CSUSB Department of Music's post 11/15/2023

We had the privilege of having harpsichordist Dr. Robert Zappulla, from the Claremont Graduate University School of Music with us yesterday during the CSUSB Symphony Orchestra class time to give an early music guest recital, lecture and masterclass. Our department’s new harpsichord, a William Hyman, 1977 double manual after 18-century French models, range FF-f’’’, transposable A415/A440, disposed 2x8’, 1x4’, buff, was debuted during this event, and our own wonderful Dr. Back shared the recital stage performing on a Baroque cello by Sergio Gistri, Colle di Val d’Elsa (Italy), 2020; after Matteo Gofriller (the ‘Mischa Schneider’), Venice, 1693. It was a true pleasure to watch our students (Amy Macias, violin I, Edgar Villegas, violin II, Gabriel Knights-Herrera, viola, Annabelle Su, cello, and Allie Morones, harpsichord), beautifully perform the Overture from Burlesque de Quixotte, TWV 55:G10 by George Philipp Telemann, with our department’s brand new harpsichord and quartet of baroque string instruments, (the latter recently acquired from Ifshin). Our Early Music Ensemble is only about a year old now, but it is thriving, thanks to the wonderful leadership of Dr. Jessica Getman (MM Historical Performance, Oboe), and Dr. Esther Back (DMA Historical Performance Practices, Baroque Cello & Viola Da Gamba). Congratulations everyone! 🎶👏🏻❤️
