"It is really hard for me to describe my study abroad experience. I don't ever know where to begin! My interest in studying abroad began when I read an email from the study abroad office in my student email. I wasn't sure what study abroad was at the time, so I took it upon myself to find out. Through my research i became very intrigued with studying abroad, and decided that I was going to study abroad.
Just like many of the other students that have studied abroad with the Alamo Colleges, I attended the Study Abroad Fair that was held at San Antonio College. I got to learn about all of the programs that the Alamo Colleges offered, spoke to the faculty for each program, and talk with other students that had already studied abroad. After the fair, I chose to apply for the "Explore Paris: The City of Lights and Love" program. It was perfect for me, because the courses for the program fit right into my degree plan and I've always wanted to travel to Paris.
I worked very hard to fund my study abroad program. I am a first generation college student and I come from a low income family, so there was no way that I could pay out of pocket to study abroad. I was awarded 3 scholarships, in total the scholarships exceeded the cost of my program. So i studied abroad for free! I was awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, The Alamo Colleges faculty-Led Study Abroad Scholarship, and IIE Generation Study Abroad Grant. So I know first-hand that studying abroad is an experience that any student can have.
The 16 days I spent in Paris is an experience that I will never forget! I have seen and done just about everything that there is to do in Paris. I enjoyed myself so much that I am already looking into studying abroad again next year!
