Margil Elementary, SAISD

Margil Elementary, SAISD Character Trait of the Month: Fairness Margil Elementary was established in 1936 in the school building which previously housed Grant Elementary School.

In 1972 a second building was constructed, and the current building was constructed in 2006 with funds from the 1997 Bond Program. Our school is named after Antonio Margil, a Spanish Missionary to Texas, who founded Mission San Jose along the banks of the San Antonio River in 1720 and thereby helped to establish the city of San Antonio.

📅 Margil Families — September is Here! 💙💛

We are excited to share our September Calendar with our Margil families! Please take a moment to review the calendar and save the dates for this month’s important events and activities.

⚠️ Grandparents’ Day Breakfast Update: Unfortunately, our Grandparents’ Day Breakfast scheduled for Tuesday, September 8th has been CANCELED. Due to the storm this past weekend, our district’s Food Services Building was impacted, resulting in limited food availability.

We know how special this celebration is for our students and their grandparents, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support as our district and community recover from the storm. ❤️

Please be sure to check the September Calendar for all other upcoming Margil events!

📢 Margil Families: Important Updates💙💛

1.) We are happy to share that Margil Elementary will return to our normal after-school dismissal procedures today. Students will dismiss from their regular designated areas.

We also want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to our amazing grounds crew who stepped up after the storm to help our campus. 🌳❤️ They cut down fallen trees, remove branches, and hauled away debris from our courtyard, playgrounds, and walkways. Their support is a wonderful reminder of what makes the Margil community so special!

2.) We are hosting a grandparents breakfast on Tuesday, September 8th at 7:15 am. A flyer is gong home today to RSVP.

3.) Families who receive SNAP benefits may be eligible to request replacement benefits for food lost due to a power outage or household disaster. ⚠️ Please act quickly! Food loss must be reported within 10 calendar days of the power outage or disaster to qualify for replacement benefits.

Margil Familia,

⚠️ Important Dismissal Update for Today ⚠️

For the safety of our students, families, and staff, please follow these temporary dismissal procedures:

Head Start and Kindergarten: Dismissal from their usual locations
1st and 2nd Grades: Dismissal from their classrooms
3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades: Dismissal from the gym

All gates along Perez Street will remain closed because downed trees are blocking the sidewalks, including a partially fallen tree near the gate. Please use the San Jacinto Street gate to access dismissal areas.

The courtyard will also remain closed due to fallen trees and debris. Crews have been working diligently throughout the day to clear the campus. We hope all areas are cleared for tomorrow dismissal. We will update families as soon as we can.

Please allow additional time, follow staff directions, and avoid all closed or restricted areas for safety. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to dismiss every student safely.

Dear Margil Families and Staff:

Campus administration visited our school this weekend to walk the facility and ensure we’re ready for school on Monday, Aug. 31. We are working on getting the electricity back up and we anticipate that it will be in working condition by this evening. We will begin school at our regular time, and buses will run on established schedules. We will be ready to greet your child with breakfast in the morning.

The San Antonio Food Bank is also offering emergency food distributions. Please see attached flyer for more details. Families and community members needing assistance may call the Neighbor Services Hotline at 210-431-8326 or 1-800-246-9121.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Castaneda, Principal
