"Having books in the home increases a student's access to reading and can have a meaningful impact on their success. At Ross, approximately 86% of our students are economically disadvantaged, compared with about 51% across the district. That tells me there is a real need to provide our students with access to high-interest, diverse, quality books."

Adams Hill ES library held its first Read With Me this morning for PreK and Kinder students and parents. They enjoyed spending quality time reading books chosen by their kids in the library. They got to read together for 20 minutes of uninterrupted time! Many Northside ISD libraries offer toddler times and other programs for future students. Can you believe it's already the 4th week of school?? We can, because those books have been moving! started the year off with over 130,000 checkouts!

Building foundational literacy skills starts early! Even the Littlest of learners enjoy the library and learn literacy skills! NISD Esparza PreK class visits with librarian, Mrs. Ruiz, for the very first time, learning essential book care rules and library procedures.

It’s author announcement day! LibraryPalooza was at the Book Nerd bookstore today to unveil the 2027 author line up. We are so excited! Mark your calendars for 2/27/27!

Zachary MS librarian, Ms Key, delivering innovative, impactful learning every day in the library. Today students analyzed poetry using MyShortAnswer/Scriblit, answering questions, citing text evidence, and peer-reviewing their classmates' responses! ✍️💡

Carnahan ES first graders are practicing their retelling skills in the library this week. After hearing a story, they work with a partner to tell the beginning, middle, and end using complete sentences. Then a volunteer presents a retelling to the class. Literacy skills that students learn in the classroom are reinforced in the library every day!

Boone ES librarian, Mrs. Chavez, knows every little bit counts, so she works to sprinkle literacy throughout the school! In the cafeteria, there is a food idiom of the week. Every teacher, custodian, cafeteria worker, and staff member has a READ poster outside their door so students see adults as readers. Even math literacy is included with a monthly estimate challenge. And, students have fun writing captions for a new “say what” image every few weeks. Librarians are always looking for little ways to improve literacy alongside the larger goals of the library and school!
