WHEN THE MESSAGE TROUBLES YOU
December 1st, 2025
“Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.” - Luke 1:29
Long before the first Christmas morning, God sent an angel named Gabriel to a young woman in a small town called Nazareth. Her name was Mary. She was engaged to be married, living an ordinary life, and had no idea that she was about to receive a message that would change history. When Gabriel appeared and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored, the Lord is with you,” Mary didn’t feel excitement or peace at first. The Bible says she was “greatly troubled” by his words.
It wasn’t the angel that startled her. It was the message itself. God was choosing her for something she didn’t understand, something far beyond what she thought she was capable of. The idea that she, an unknown teenage girl from an unimportant town, would carry the Son of God must have felt impossible to believe. Yet this is how God often works. His word doesn’t always bring comfort first. It brings confrontation. It shakes our assumptions and forces us to wrestle with what obedience will cost.
There are moments when the message of God unsettles us before it strengthens us. He calls us to forgive when we’d rather stay bitter. He asks us to trust when we can’t see the outcome. His voice disrupts comfort because He’s preparing us for calling. Mary’s confusion was not a lack of faith. It was the honest reaction of a heart learning what favor really means.
Maybe God has given you a word that feels heavy or unclear. You can’t yet see how it will work out. Remember, the truth of God’s call can confuse before it clarifies, but His favor always carries purpose. What feels troubling now may one day become the testimony that proves His faithfulness. Hold steady. The same God who called Mary still calls ordinary people today, and He knows exactly what He’s doing.
REAL FAITH SHOWS UP IN THE ORDINARY
November 30th, 2025
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” - Colossians 3:23
You do not need a stage to live out your faith. You do not need a spotlight, a massive audience, or some big spiritual moment. Real faith is not proven in the grand gestures. It is lived out in the quiet, repetitive, unseen corners of everyday life.
Maybe you think your life is too normal to matter. You wake up, go to work, make meals, pay bills, show up for people, and try your best to keep it all together. That might not feel like faith in action, but it is. If you’re doing it all with Jesus in mind, it absolutely is.
God sees your obedience in the ordinary. He sees how you hold your tongue when you want to lash out. He sees how you serve without being thanked. He sees the prayers you pray when no one’s around. That’s faith. Not loud, not flashy, but real.
Jesus spent the first 30 years of His life doing carpentry in a small town. Think about that. The Son of God quietly showing up to work with wood, helping neighbors, living in a home that probably didn’t seem all that special to anyone else. And yet, it was all part of the story.
You do not need to be in a dramatic season for your faith to matter. In fact, God often does His best work in the simple things. The everyday grind. The unnoticed moments. The stuff no one else sees but Him.
You don't have to wait for some mountaintop moment to feel close to God. Invite Him into the mundane. Trust that He is working in it. Keep showing up. Keep walking by faith. He’s not just in the miracles. He’s right there in your Monday morning routine.
Faith doesn’t need to be loud. It just needs to be real. And sometimes, the most powerful display of it is simply choosing to live like Jesus in the middle of your normal life.
DON’T MISS JESUS WHILE TRYING TO WORK FOR HIM
November 29th, 2025
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary” - Luke 10:41-42
You can be doing everything for Jesus and still miss being with Him. That’s the warning tucked inside the story of Martha and Mary in Luke 10. One sister is busy preparing, serving, and managing the moment. The other is simply sitting at the feet of Jesus, soaking in His presence. And it’s the quiet one, not the busy one, who Jesus calls right.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of equating activity with intimacy. You might be volunteering at church, leading small groups, building a ministry, or raising a godly family. But if you aren’t carving out space just to be with Him, you’re slowly drifting. Doing all the right things but losing the joy of why you started in the first place.
Jesus isn’t after your performance. He’s after your heart. He doesn’t need you to impress Him with spiritual busyness. He wants you to come close and listen. That’s what Mary did. She didn’t bring anything to the table except her presence, and that was enough.
You were not created to just serve a mission. You were made for relationship with the One who gave you the mission in the first place. If your schedule is packed with Christian things but your soul feels distant from Christ, something’s off.
Let this be a moment where you pause and ask yourself honestly, “When was the last time I just sat with Jesus?” Not for a sermon, not to prep a lesson, not to post something online. Just you and Him.
The work can wait. The to-do list will still be there. But you cannot afford to miss Him in the name of serving Him.
So slow down. Breathe. Sit. He’s not asking you to do more. He’s inviting you to draw near.
