Imagination Library of San Antonio We are bringing Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, an internationally recognized book-gifting program, to San Antonio!

Kids from birth to age 5 can sign-up to receive free books mailed every month to their homes until their 5th birthday. The Imagination Library of San Antonio (ILSA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to increasing literacy, improving educational outcomes, and fostering a love of reading in young children across our community. In 2024, ILSA became a Local Program Partner of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Our primary mission is to ensure that all young children in San Antonio may participate in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. We aim to support early childhood education and inspire a love of reading that will last a lifetime by providing free, high-quality books to children from birth to age 5.

We celebrated Dolly Parton Day at University Health's Women's & Children's Hospital. We unveiled a new, hand-painted Dolly's Book Nook at the hospital.

University Health Women's & Children's Hospital is the first hospital in San Antonio to register all NICU babies from birth into our book gifting program. ILSA mails a free book every month from birth to age five and has sent more than 12,000 books to nearly 3,000 children across 26 ZIP codes since March 2025. With University Health, it now reaches babies facing some of the greatest health risks of their lives. It lays the groundwork for growth across the University Health system and, in time, for every baby born in San Antonio.

We're thankful for this partnership with University Health. A special thank you to Sarah Forbes, the regional director with Dollywood Foundation, who joined us at the unveiling.

Imagination Library of San Antonio (ILSA) is all about brain building. Every month, ILSA mails a free, age-appropriate book directly to the home of each enrolled child — addressed to the child themselves, and at no cost to the family.

Since launching in March 2025, ILSA has mailed over 12,000 books, with nearly 3,000 children served since inception across over 26+ ZIP codes in San Antonio, with over 26,000 eligible children in our current service area.
