Researchers at UT San Antonio’s Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases are leading a new $2.5 million national, multi-site study to advance understanding of dementia with Lewy bodies, one of the most common and complex forms of dementia.
The study will help identify biomarkers that could improve diagnosis, accelerate research and support the development of future treatments.

At 75, Frank Morrill wasn't ready to slow down. After a knee injury worsened ongoing pain and instability, the activities he loved became increasingly difficult.
With guidance from Thomas DeBerardino, MD, orthopaedic surgeon at UT Health San Antonio, Frank received the MISHA knee implant, an innovative procedure designed for patients who aren't yet candidates for a total knee replacement.
Today, he's back to the life he loves.
"Essentially, I've got my knee back," Frank said. "I can dance, do yoga and chase after my grandkids again."

Research led by UT Health San Antonio identified an association between GLP-1 medications and reduced risk across multiple cancers using one of the world's largest real-world clinical databases. The work, presented at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting, earned physician-scientist Colton Jones, MD, the prestigious Healio NextGen Disruptor Award.
