For more than a decade, the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the School of Medicine has helped prepare physicians to meet the growing need for care across South Texas. Training at San Antonio’s largest emergency department, residents gain experience caring for patients with a wide range of medical and social needs.

The program is also building the region's workforce. Of the 123 physicians who have graduated since the program’s first class in 2016, 33 have remained in San Antonio or South Texas to practice emergency medicine.

UT San Antonio is beginning the 2026-27 academic year with record enrollment, including a significant milestone for health professions education.

For the first time, the Bold Promise program is available to qualifying students at the Health Science Center, with more than 165 students participating this fall.

A cancer diagnosis changed one San Antonio family’s perspective on blood donation, inspiring them to turn concern into action.

When their son, Jack, began cancer treatment at Mays Cancer Center at UT Health San Antonio, his parents, David and Rebecca Jarboe, learned how important donated blood and platelets can be for patients undergoing cancer treatment. They organized a blood drive with family and friends at the UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty & Research Hospital's Blood Donor Center, transforming their experience into an opportunity to support other patients and families.
