However, all Central Office, district and essential staff will report to work on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at their regularly scheduled times. Essential employees include all central office staff (Quincy, Cooper, Summit), campus custodians, and all operations staff. See your email for details.

We are monitoring weather conditions. Please read this update, and stay connected to learn the latest.

Dear familias:

Happy New Year! We are excited to welcome you back from Winter Break tomorrow on Tuesday, Jan. 7 for a fantastic second semester. We also are aware of the weather forecast for this week, and we want to keep you updated on our preparations.

Inclement Weather and School Closures:
• At this time, we are planning to be open this week. However, we recognize that early notification of the impact of inclement weather allows parents, guardians, and staff to make informed travel and childcare decisions.
• If it is necessary to close schools on Thursday, Jan. 9, we will make every effort to make this decision on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 8.
• However, weather can change rapidly, and if a decision must be made Thursday morning, the decision will be made no later than 5:15 a.m. and we will begin the notification process.

Planning for Mitigation:
• Please dress students in layers. Since temperature comfort can be a matter of personal preference, it is helpful when students have options to add or remove layers.
• Principals have mitigation plans to ensure the comfort of students and staff, including moving students to warmer areas and using portable heating units.
• The district also has prepared swing sites if needed in an emergency, and we are able to deploy our buses for transportation.

Interagency Collaboration:
Today, the district participated in a conference call with the National Weather Service, the Office of Emergency Management, other agencies, and area superintendents. Here is what we know at this time:
• We anticipate very cold, but dry weather through Wednesday with temperatures dipping down as low as 30 and 40 degrees.
• Late Wednesday night through early Thursday is the timeframe we are currently monitoring due to anticipated precipitation.
• It is still too early to tell whether temperatures will be at or below freezing.
• Current indications indicate there is very low probability (10-15%) of hazardous driving or major disruptions Thursday morning.
• Because conditions may change, we will continue to assess weather conditions.

Support and Preparation:
• The Operations team has been working since the summer to ensure we are ready for cold weather. All boilers have been serviced, and staff have been working over the break to ensure we are positioned well for upcoming winter weather.
• We continue to address individual spaces as needed.
• Boilers will remain on and in occupied mode for the remainder of this week and any other times we experience prolonged inclement weather.

Inclemencias meteorológicas y cierre de escuelas:
• En este momento, estamos planeando estar abiertos esta semana. Sin embargo, reconocemos que la notificación con antelación del impacto de las inclemencias meteorológicas permite a los padres, tutores y personal tomar decisiones informadas sobre el viaje y el cuidado de los niños.
