We wanted to take a moment to recognize one of our amazing Coker Cubs, Jayana. She exemplifies what it means to be a Coker Cub! Please read the following sent to us from one of our hard working transportation employees. It truly does take a village, and we believe we at Coker have the best Village! #WeAreCoker #RootEdCoker

"Today I drove the COKER BUS for the first time, and had a few issues with the written instructions.
And some of the streets have no name signs. It was also very early in the morning so it was very dark.
To add to this, some of the names on the streets are covered with brush.
This happens time to time.
Needless to say I was misdirected and was running late on my pick-ups.
But as soon as Jayana boarded the bus, she offered to help me.
She was wonderful and very knowledgeable.
Her Knowing her route from home to school was very helpful and I truly appreciate this.
She even asked the students to be quiet so she could help me.
We as bus drivers appreciate this from students.
What we do day to day is not easy, trying to get students to school and home safely regardless of weather, traffic, street construction, road blocks, etc.
We try and watch everything around us while at the same time trying to keep an eye on any where from 1 to 72 students on board.
but students like her make our jobs a lot easier!
"

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Mrs. Timbalari's 1st grade students learned all about Frida Kahlo, famous Mexican artist. Taking inspiration from here each student created their own piece of art in true Frida Kahlo fashion, the self portrait. #wearecoker #rootedcoker

NEISD offers remote conferencing for students in quarantine #theNEISDway

North East ISD provides tutors via remote conference during the school day to students quarantining due to COVID-19. This remote conference tutoring is available to students in kindergarten through 12th grade while in quarantine.

Remote conferencing is only available during your child’s quarantine period; this does not replace in-person instruction.

For elementary students, remote conferencing is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. When your child goes into quarantine, your child’s home campus will provide you with their Remote Conference Tutor’s name, session time and meeting link.

At the secondary level, remote conferencing is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. When your secondary student goes into quarantine they will receive their link in Skyward.

Your child will be counted present for the day as long as they are logged in for the duration of their assigned session.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your home campus.

#BeThe1To reach out during Su***de Prevention Month

September is National Su***de Prevention Month. Su***de isn’t an easy topic. It’s not an easy conversation to have with students, but it’s something that North East ISD Student Teacher Assistance Network (STAN) counselors often deal with.

Julie Magadance is a STAN Counselor at Garner and Harris middle schools. Her job is dedicated to helping students socially and emotionally navigate difficult and complex situations. She believes a simple check-in and open line of communication can make all the difference for someone who’s struggling. The #BeThe1To Campaign encourages everyone to be the person to speak up and reach out to friends and family.

“It is important to know that lots of people think about su***de as a fleeting thought or something that briefly crosses their mind,” said Magadance. “It is the cycle of moving through the stages from thinking about it to planning it to acting on it that we are trying to interrupt with our participation in the #BeThe1To campaign.”

The #BeThe1To campaign lists five steps for communicating with someone who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts.

Ask
Be There
Keep Them Safe
Help Them Connect
Follow Up
Be the one to ask if someone is okay. Be the one to alert a STAN counselor if a friend needs help. And if you need something, be the one to ask for help.

Each week classes can earn points for everyone that participates. This week both Ms. Behnke and Ms. Terrazas class had 100% percent of their class wear Coker shirts or red. Ms. Behnke’s class has won 1st place for three weeks in a row. Which class will take the title from them?
