Mission: To ensure all scholars meets or exceeds their growth in Math and Reading, leading to improved scholar achievement. The school opened in September 1906 as the Kerr Hill School, or School No. 21, when students attending San Fernando Street School, No. 8, were transferred to the new campus at Brazos and Colima streets to relieve overcrowding. dge Memorial School in 1907 to honor the benefactor George Brackenridge's brother. In some records the school is mistakenly called John Tyler Brackenridge. Throughout its rich history the school has served elementary as well as junior high level students and has produced many distinguished alumni. Brackenridge became an academy with the addition of grade 6. Over the years, old facilities were expanded or replaced with new construction to meet the growing needs of the community. The 1997 bond funded a physical education facility, a walk-in cooler/freezer, elevator upgrades, new fire alarm, technology and intercom systems, and other improvements to meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. With funds from the 2001 bond program, classroom renovations for the early childhood education program were completed in 2004. As part of the centennial celebration, the school community will celebrate the completion of these projects.
