Chapman University is known for film, though one current institutional priority includes growing their engineering program, which offers strong departmental merit award (but is not yet ABET accredited).
Students are required to live on campus for three years and can bring a car for free.
The general ed requirements include nine different areas of inquiry. Chapman students are required to have a second major or a minor or an area of themed inquiry.
About three quarters of students (76%) apply to Chapman as test optional, and about the same percentage of admitted students (74%) were test optional. Chapman uses a recalculated, weighted gpa for admissions and includes high school classes that relate to a student’s prospective major. For example, music applicants will have their high school music classes counted in the recalculated, weighted gpa.
Chapman hosts approximately 7000 undergraduate students and their average class size is 23.
The financial award at Chapman averages around $35K, though their all-in COA hovers right around $90K.

Hi! It’s your friendly college admissions consultant. 😎
I wanted to make you all aware of a new opportunity: ASU London for business, comp sci, and engineering majors.
This is not a semester study abroad. Rather, this is a separate Arizona State campus located in London and it is a fully accredited UK institution. Like other UK programs, the course of study there takes three years to earn a degree.
ASU London is not on the Common App. Students apply using the ASU London institution-specific application or the UK’s UCAS application.
After graduating from ASU London, students come back for a fourth year to earn a master’s degree stateside at ASU.
Tuition at ASU London runs 33K with merit awards of 5-20% discount. Housing in London can be, of course, expensive.
They are expecting 150-200 students for the inaugural year starting Fall 2026. Seems like a cool option for those wanting to expand their horizons, earn a master’s degree in a compact timeframe, and stand out in what can be a competitive job market after graduation.

“According to a new study led by researchers at Binghamton University, autistic college students face dramatically higher rates of anxiety and depression compared to their non-autistic peers.”
It’s so important for families of autistic students to include proper support as a key fit factor in their college search.

It’s your friendly college admissions consultant balancing yesterday’s Gig ‘em with some news from Hook ‘em.
Unlike A&M, there is no admissions advantage to applying to UT Austin early. Zero.
However, at UT, a student can put down a housing line placeholder deposit as soon as the application is complete. (At A&M, a student must wait until they are admitted.)
UT does not have enough room on campus to house all their freshmen, so putting down that housing placeholder fee early improves the chances of being offered a housing contract if accepted.
Also, hat tip to Kendall Guess, an Austin-based college consultant, for this update: UT offers three newish CS+X majors. These majors are combination of computer science and one of 3 integrated subjects: History, Linguistics or Neuroscience. These majors will all be housed in the College of Natural Sciences.
If you have a student interested, they should apply to the one most interesting to them For example, student more interested in neuroscience would apply Neuro as 1st choice, and Comp Sci as 2nd choice.
As soon as one of these combinations have been entered on the Common App, a new prompt will appear: are you interested in CompSci + X program? Yes/No.
Students applying to CS +X need to write a “Why Major?” essay *after submitting the Common App*, in ADDITION to the two required supplemental essays.
This essay will appear in MYSTATUS (UT portal) and be submitted there.
