My Takeaway: once you’ve climbed the mountain, you find that there are only more mountains to climb. When you observe children, they don’t gravitate toward those external markers of success. Rather, they simply gravitate to what they most enjoy, which makes them happy. Definitely some things to think about as we craft our career and life plans.
Why So Many Smart People Aren’t Happy
It’s a paradox: Shouldn’t the most accomplished be well equipped to make choices that maximize life satisfaction?

Figuring out your career is important as is Academic Achievement, but I think we often forget about helping our clients/students build an identity as a professional. Whether they come from high or low income families, beginning helping them consider the challenges of their future (e.g., job pressures, family responsibilities, social life maintenance) is critical. I always tell my students that though these issues may seem simple and secondary to completing their Academic goals and establishing their careers, they are not less important.

Career Assessment is the only solution to the student loan debt crisis! Students must know the odds of their success in career fields before beginning borrowing for any collegiate program. If students won't seek this service themselves, colleges and universities must integrate it into required course curricula!

Many colleges and universities are leaving students with no better than a 50/50 chance of graduating or landing good jobs.

So pleased to happen upon a former student. He detailed opportunities he has discovered since developing his career and college major plan in my course. Sometimes you wonder what impact you have on your students/clients, but I never question the impact they have on my life. They say if you find work that you love, you'll never work a day in your life. Seeing my student reminds me of my gratitude for a career that I love!
