Cincinnati Federation of Teachers to Distribute 5,000 Free Books at 6th Annual "A Day of Blessing"

CINCINNATI, OH — The Cincinnati Federation of Teachers (CFT) is partnering with local churches and community organizations to help more than 1,200 Cincinnati children and families prepare for the new school year by distributing more than 5,000 free books during the 6th Annual "A Day of Blessing" on Saturday, August 1.

The event begins at 1:00 p.m. at Corinthian Baptist Church, 1920 Tennessee Avenue in Bond Hill, where families will receive backpacks, school supplies, hygiene items, haircuts, clothing and shoe gift cards, books, food, games, and other community resources at no cost.

Through a $10,000 grant from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the generosity of First Book, CFT secured approximately 5,000 new books for children ages 4–18. Every child will receive at least three books, with many taking home up to six to help build their own home library.

"Literacy is one of the most important foundations for success in school and in life," said Julie Sellers, President of the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers. "Reading is fundamental, yet many students don't have books of their own at home. We're proud to help put thousands of books into the hands of Cincinnati children and inspire a lifelong love of reading."

As Cincinnati Public Schools faces continued financial uncertainty surrounding school funding and ongoing cuts to public education at the state level, CFT remains committed to investing directly in students and families through partnerships that strengthen the community.

"A Day of Blessing" is organized by Corinthian Baptist Church, Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church, New Prospect Baptist Church, Living God Church, The Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, The Church of the Risen Christ, Zion Cincinnati, and the United Way of Greater Cincinnati. Founded during the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual event continues its mission of serving Cincinnati families through faith, partnership, and community support.
