There was something in the water back in 1977-1983 in Alaska.

We just ain’t like the rest.

The riff raff that spawned out of that era,

seemed to face the crossroads with every breath.

Destined for greatness or great lessons. At times one within itself. That strange gift.

Old friend death always just one second behind. Ready to catch you if you missed your step.

The only thing to prove was that fear wasn’t there.

Certainly not the kind of badass that our grandparents might’ve been.

I think we were more of the wild animal type.

And not from a jungle. But in the mind.
You could see it unraveling.

There were no movies to influence us. Because we had nothing to relate to, except us.

We related to each other. And understood the madness.

4 months then 8 months. Light then dark.

But I miss it. The innocence. It was raw. And it was dangerous. It was comforting.

I would do it over, and over. I would even wish it for my kids. But it’s not normal. Probably not even healthy.

But seeing old friends that shared this unique opportunity to grow in that era, outside of that era.

We see scars and battle wounds. Where none exist.

We see smiles. We see pain. We see the fight. We see the win.

I love all my people.



Damn. What a life we lived.
