While I’m not in any hurry for Spring Break to end, I am pumped to finish up these notebook pages we started for “The Crossover” by when we head back to school
🏀
Keeping Josh and JB separate has proven difficult for some of my readers, so I knew we needed to add something to our notebooks to keep better track of the characters. Interactive notebooks are not just some fun, frilly way to take up class time. They allow for organizing information in a way that’s meaningful to the student, allow for expression especially from your artsy students (and sometimes those that aren’t!), and give a brain break to those who need direct instruction in smaller segments. They’re also perfect for students to use during Socratic seminars when they need to refer back to something specific in the story!
🏀
Also- if you’re looking for narrative poetry that’s relevant to your readers and not written by “an old dead man” you HAVE TO give The Crossover a try. I am hooked and it’s the only “novel” I read every. single. year. with my classes!

😱 This project was the ULTIMATE reminder of how important it is that you offer your students a variety of tasks to assess what they know! For our quarterly “book report” my kiddos had to build a room that reflected there character and include a certain set of items backed up by text evidence. Boy did these kids BRING IT! My kiddos who don’t get the chance to do a lot of “shining” in class sure got to shine this time! 💗
Characterization Project product coming to TpT soon! Or let’s be real- when I have “free time.” 😂 @ San Antonio, Texas
