・・・
Welcome to 2020 and the first of the new year and the new semester! Let’s start off by recognizing a familiar face around -- Joel McMinn-Reyna. Joel is a senior pursuing his B.A. and is in the saxophone studio of Dr. Rami El-Farrah. Joel has performed with a large number of music ensembles over the years. This fall, he completed his fourth and final year with the Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band, where he was the section leader for the past 3 years and a Student Assistant. He has performed with the University Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble in the course of his 7 semesters. For 2 years he played with the Jazz Ensemble and performed alongside his brethren as part of the Saxophone Ensemble. Although Joel is experienced as a live performer, his career plan will not focus on playing. "I want to pursue Audio Engineering," he says. "I have been doing more research on instrument repair. My time here on campus has allowed me to go in-depth with both and I can't wait to apply [what I have learned]!” When he isn't studying or practicing, Joel is active in Phi Mu Alpha. He has been a member for the past 2 years and, as part of that membership, has directed a concerted effort among the other music student organizations in decorating the music building for Christmas and Halloween. Joel is always ready to lend a helping hand whether it be in his fraternity, ensemble, or department. To him, the support he gives is returned in kind. “I love the faculty and staff at UTSA, everyone is very kind and supportive of what I do. They, along with many of my colleagues have made UTSA Music feel like a second family for me!”
