BUA Alumni

Bringing our Alumni together The Baptist University of the Américas is forming the Alumni Union to stabilize the near and distant reach of relationships in the BUA family.

Our focus will be to elevate a quality ministry platform for our Alumni by promoting high points for ministry and high interest for one another.

Mission: It is our passion to fulfill our mission. We believe that mission is a job description from God for what he desires BUA to be. The words were chosen through a deliberate and specific process to identify that invitation from God.

Operating as usual

Hey fellow Alumni please be in prayer for Our beloved Terry Martinez, she has been admitted to the hospital this morning.

BUA Remembers Joanna Esparza Enrriques

It is with much sorrow that we share the passing of alumni, Joanna Esparza. Joanna served in many leadership capacities at BUA. Whether through Student Government, Acentos Café or humbly cleaning offices, Joanna served others. After graduating from BUA, Joanna was hired by Ben Newell, owner of Duck Donuts and a friend of BUA.

“Joanna was a natural leader and thus, was a wonderful teacher, friend, supporter, and manager. She was concerned for all her friends, employees, and family. She was always available for all of us! She was always humble and ready to stand up for what is right. She was a true lady of God and leader for Duck Donuts and for the church. Rest in peace Joanna, you’ve brought blessings to all of us.” – Ben Newell

Joanna was truly a blessing to the BUA Community, her classmates, and her Duck Donuts employees. Joanna Esparza Enrriques graduated in 2017 with a BUA degree in Human Behavior. Joanna will be missed greatly and our condolences are extended to her immediate and extended family.
Please join us as we pray for Joanna’s husband, Aaron Enrriques, her parents, Eduardo and Norma Esparza, and her two younger sisters, Tisha Zamora Esparza, and Luisa Esparza.

[10/16/20]   Alumni, good evening. Terry Martinez, BUA Librarian, asked for your prayers. She’s in the hospital. Thanks for lifting her up to the Lord. God bless.

So proud of our BUA alumna, Margarita Garcia!

Kaufman ISD’s own Margarita Garcia was recently selected as one of only eight individuals state-wide to receive the 2020 Texas B.E.S.T. Award.

This award reflects Mrs. Garcia’s commitment to excellence in the field of service and education and stands as a dual recognition for her alma mater: Baptist University of the Americas.

Also, Region 10 chose their elementary and secondary “Teacher of the Year” representatives for each district.

We congratulate Mrs. Tonya Lowder of Nash Elementary, who believes that “educating children is the best way to make a difference in this world” and Mr. Steven Bucholtz of Kaufman High School, who believes that “all kids have potential brilliance. Our job is to help them find it.”

Their pictures will be hanging on the wall of honor at Region 10 this year and their principals and Dr. Blaylock stopped by this morning to congratulate them and give them their yard signs.

We are proud to have these three KISD employees recognized and honored as ambassadors of hard work for our district.

[07/02/20]   FALL 2020 UPDATE - July 2, 2020

In Mid-March, due to the rapid spread of COVID-19, Baptist University of the Américas successfully transitioned all instruction to virtual and an online delivery platform. This was an unprecedented action that allowed all students to continue their education. Finishing the semester took an extraordinary effort from our faculty and staff, as well as our students. Those scheduled for graduation were able to finish their academic journey at the university. By God’s protection, provision and grace, our community excelled during this time!

The Fall 2020 BUA semester will begin as scheduled on August 24, pending any new directives from government officials. BUA is offering three platforms for classes:

1. In person (face-to-face) instruction
2. Virtual instruction
3. Online instruction

Some classes will be offered in person (face-to-face) while others are virtual and online. Students will register for courses understanding that not all classes may be offered for each platform. Those classes that are in person (face-to-face) will end on Tuesday November 24, prior to the Thanksgiving break, and transition to a virtual and online platform the week of November 30. Final exams for all classes will take place virtually or online the week of December 7. The goal of this plan is to reduce non-essential travel over the holidays and minimize time on-campus during the peak of the flu and cold season.

In preparation for the start of the academic year, the university has put in place COVID-19 guidelines for faculty, staff and students to follow.

• Protocols on limiting classroom occupancy and requiring social distancing.
• Cleaning and disinfecting procedures for common areas and surfaces throughout the day.
• Standards for reporting and self-quarantine should a student or employee develop symptoms similar to COVID-19.
• Any other directives from our local and state government

In the event of another stay-at-home or shelter-in-place order from the government, the university is prepared to shift face-to-face classroom instruction to virtual or online delivery methods. Since the transition in mid-March, faculty and staff have been working arduously to improve the remote teaching and learning experience, positioning the university to shift quickly and effectively. Our student’s safety and success is of utmost importance to Baptist University of the Américas.

New student applications continue to be accepted for the Fall 2020 semester. Also, Piper Village Student Housing will remain open as an option for student living. Please visit bua.edu/virtual to look at our campus, apply for Fall 2020 and obtain more information. You may also contact the BUA Admissions Office at [email protected] or at (210) 924-4338. For information about scholarships and financial aid, send an email to [email protected].

University staff and faculty are eager to welcome new and current students back to the BUA community. We know that God is always at work around us pursuing a relationship with us. Our prayer is that He reveals Himself, His purposes, and His ways to you clearly as you prayerful consider Baptist University of the Américas as your educational option.
