MEA is hosting a clothing drive next week! From October 23-26, bring some clothes in that you are willing to donate, and exchange them for other items of clothings from other VanderCookies! You will find clothing racks in the basement of the 3140 building to hang and find donated items of clothing for exchanging! All leftover clothing items will be donated

This past weekend, members our MEA chapter at VCM traveled to San Antonio for the TMEA conference! We had an amazing and educational experience, and it was great to get out of the Chicago cold. We had an amazing time and are very grateful for the experience!

Our next black history month spotlight is Florence Price!! Florence Price was the first African-American woman to have her music performed by a major symphony orchestra – in 1933. A music critic from the Chicago Daily News heard the work, performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and declared it “a faultless work, a work that speaks its own message with restraint and yet with passion… worthy of a place in the regular symphonic repertoire.”

Born in Arkansas in 1887, Price was a deeply religious person, and brought the music of the African-American church into her music – as well as influences from the likes of Dvořák, Tchaikovsky and other European Romantic composers.

TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT!! The wonderful Saxophonix quartet will be performing at VanderCook in room Q120 this evening at 7:00pm. They will be performing a variety of genres, including never before heard pieces. We hope to see you there!
