Hey, San Antonio? The Chinese Virus originated in...wait for it....CHI-NA!!!
We invite all our friends in San Antonio to join us for a unique event with Persian music, dance and poetry at an official DreamWeek / DreamVoice event on January 18 at UIW Concert Hall.
I'm curious - how do we choose who gets to be a Sister City? Is there a criteria?
Family Violence Victims Advocacy Being Jeopardized
Some of the of serious issues concerning the decision to restructure the Crisis Response team (CRT).
• CRT will lose its primary objective and mission for victims of family violence.
• The new responsibilities on the Uniformed Evidence Detective Investigator, (UEDI) will be overwhelming.
Investigations + CRT duties = impossible.
(Home visits, Transportation to the shelter, Walk in reports, just to name a few),
• The individual customized care of each victim will be lost.
• Also some of the highly trained civilians possibly leaving CRT due to the changes.
• The "24 hour rule" , is to exhaust all resources attempting to contact each victim within 24hrs upon getting the case assigned.
This will be impossible considering all the CRT work and case load of the UEDI combined.
The victim is being put aside to accommodate the thinking of the SAPD upper management.
Change is good but it should be done for the better... this is a huge step backwards.
CRT will no longer be able to give our victims the cushion to fall back on in troubled times, nor the confidence to do what rightly needs to be done. The CRT office will just be a place to get the charges filed and the advocacy will be thrown out. Victims will be reduced to a police report case number and will fall through the cracks if this decision is not reversed.
CRT has been in place since 1997 and very successful, yes there is always room for improvement but this change is not improving anything.
The problem is at the PSHQ, Public Safety HeadQuarters
not having sufficient detectives to work the felony cases.
We believe a combination of CRT officers and UEDI's at each sub-station would be a better option to continue assisting victims to the fullest, and this change is all in the SAPD Chiefs hands.
Contact the SA city council, the DAs office, your SAPD Chief of police.
