The story of the Association of Texas Professional Educators began in 1975, when Texas' then-predominant educators' organization, the Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA), united with the National Education Association, a national teacher union. The unification divided TSTA because many educators didn't agree with union tactics, such as strikes, which they felt were detrimental to schoolchildre

Update: HB 4 has passed the House on third reading 143-1. Stay tuned for updates on advocating that the Senate pass this important accountability reform on to the governor!

An amendment by Rep. Mary Gonzalez that would have paused the accountability system's punitive aspects while ISDs transitioned to the new testing system unfortunately failed on a 62-81 vote. Thank you, Rep. Gonzalez, for offering this amendment.
