New migration book offers binational perspective A serendipitous meeting of St. Mary’s School of Law faculty and two Mexico City-based lawyers resulted in a new book on immigration.

Registration is now open for this year's Lawtina Network Summit on Saturday, Sept. 19, on the campus of St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas. This innovative summit celebrates Latinas at all stages of their legal career — from pre-law to practice. The summit includes info sessions, relationship-building activities and networking opportunities for pre-law and law students as well as Latina lawyers from across the country. The St. Mary's Law family can vote for Makayla Slater, a third-year J.D. student, who has been named Texas Veteran of the Year and is now in the running as a nominee for National Veteran of the Year. Laveta Casdorph (J.D. '99) was a nontraditional student enjoying a career as a federal civil servant when she decided to attend St. Mary's Law. St. Mary's Law congratulates Robin Thorner, J.D., Assistant Dean for Career Strategy, who was recently awarded the National Association for
Law Placement's Service Excellence Award. As co-chair of the Career Services Offices Chiefs Interest Group, Thorner helped create a highly engaged forum for real-time discussion of complex and evolving challenges across legal education. This work fostered candid dialogue and practical problem-solving.

Erika Perry (M.Jur. '21) decided to earn her Master of Jurisprudence, which is now called the Master of Legal Studies, with a concentration in Health Care Compliance to further her career.
