St. Mary's Law mourns the passing of Ana M. Novoa, Professor Emeritus of Law, who was the first Mexican American woman to receive tenure at the School of Law. Hailed by her former students as a fierce trailblazer and advocate for the poor and disenfranchised in the community and along the border, Novoa taught clinical education for 25 years. Her legacy lives on in the work of the Center for Legal and Social Justice, where faculty and students continue her life-changing work. Novoa is remembered for supporting and inspiring law students to realize their potential.

St. Mary's Law hosted the fifth annual Lawtina Network Summit on campus last Saturday. The annual conference is planned by the Lawtina Network Summit Leadership Team comprised of members of the Lawtina Network Law School Chapters and attorney advisers. Alumna Brianna Chapa (J.D. '23) founded Lawtina and continues to serve on the leadership team each year. The summit celebrates Latinas at all stages of their legal career from pre-law to practice.

Join us for the 74th annual Red Mass on Thursday, Oct. 22, at San Fernando Cathedral.

A tradition dating back to 1245 in Europe, Red Mass was revived in San Antonio in 1952 by St. Mary’s Law and the Catholic Lawyers’ Guild of San Antonio. For more than seven decades, this cherished tradition has brought together members of the legal community, alumni, faculty and students to welcome the new judicial year.

Together, we pray for the Holy Spirit's guidance as we pursue law and justice and strive to serve a fair and democratic society.

St. Mary's Law hosted its first Law Alumni Reconnect of the academic year in San Antonio last night at Paesanos Lincoln Heights. Law alumni from a great variety of years attended to reconnect or meet for the first time. Attendees learned about the School of Law's Centennial Celebration scheduled for Feb. 13 at The Ralston, a new event venue featuring the Mays Family Silverback Peak, a 70-foot tower offering wildlife and skyline views. San Antonio Report shares the news of the matriculation agreement between St. Mary's Law and Texas Lutheran University to help TLU students go to law school.

Qualifying Texas Lutheran University students will have guaranteed admission into the St. Mary's School of Law through a new agreement.
