Artificial intelligence is increasingly finding its way into classrooms, phones and courtrooms. But a recent case involving the San Antonio Independent School District is highlighting the risks of relying on AI without checking its work.

New J.D. students spent yesterday morning volunteering with their classmates at 15 nonprofit organizations across San Antonio. Students in these photos are shown at Special Olympics Texas, Morgan's Wonderland and Woodlawn Park. The students worked hard during the 1L Day of Service, which is part of Law Orientation.

St. Mary's Law is hosting its annual First Gen Success Summit on campus for all students who are first-generation law school students. The two-day program offers introductions to legal subjects, personal finance and student services as well as a panel of former first-gen students sharing about their experiences. A recently released report by the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers includes an article by Mason Clark, J.D., Assistant Professor of Law and an Englehardt Research Fellow at St. Mary's Law. In his article titled "Parity in Practice: The Defender's Duty to Ethically Use AI," Mason explains opportunities and risks involved with AI tools today.

While the industry has begun shaping its own AI tools to assist in administrative and research tasks, certain products still fall victim to “hallucinations” and thus each step requires human overview.

As part of St. Mary's Law's Pipeline Initiatives Program, the School of Law is hosting the 2026 Law Camp for the Young Women's Leadership Academy from the San Antonio ISD. We are hoping some of these bright young women will return to campus one day as law students.
