I will never forget making my first 30 cents on Teachers Pay Teachers. 😂

I had uploaded a $1 Sam Houston flip book, got the email that someone bought it, and was SO excited.

At the time, I had no idea that tiny sale would turn into what it has today.

It definitely didn’t happen overnight. It’s been about 12 years of creating, learning, trying things that worked, trying plenty of things that didn’t, and slowly building something that now covers a big chunk of my expenses.

And it all started with 30 cents.

If you’re a teacher who has ever thought about creating and selling your own resources, don’t underestimate the skills you already have or let the fact that you’re starting small convince you that it isn’t worth starting.

We all start somewhere. Mine just happened to be with Sam Houston and 30 cents. 😂

One of my favorite ways to make classroom visuals accessible all year long without needing endless wall space 👏

Turn your word wall posters into mini references students can access whenever they need them! Put them in a flip frame, keep them in a binder, leave them at student tables, or have students add them to their own notebooks.

The goal is for students to know where to find the support they need without always having to ask you.

Another way teachers can make extra money using skills you probably already have 👀

I don’t think teachers should have to find ways to make extra money. Teachers deserve to be paid a comfortable, livable wage for the work they’re already doing.

But I also know the reality, so I want to keep sharing ways teachers can bring in extra income if they want or need to.

One place to look: TPT business owners.

There are SO many things that go into running a TPT business beyond creating the actual resources.

My tip? Find groups where TPT sellers are looking for business support and start paying attention to what people are hiring for AND what services other people are offering.

You might be surprised by how many of those things you already know how to do.

Save this for later, and follow along because I’m sharing more ways teachers can make extra money.

Sometimes your best friends are people you meet on the internet. 🥹

Chelsea Staton and I met online in 2020 when she reached out to me with a question about working in EdTech, and I remember thinking, “Wait, I already follow you!” Little did I know I’d eventually be making regular trips to Lubbock, Texas to spend time with her and her family.

I’ve been planning this birthday surprise since JUNE, and somehow managed to keep it from her all this time. She had absolutely no idea I was coming until I showed up at her door (and apparently knocked VERY loudly).

And somehow we were wearing the exact same color shirt when I surprised her, which I didn’t even notice until I was editing this video. 😂

In about 48 hours, we worked out, baked sourdough bread, went to the gym, planned her gallery wall, bedazzled some things, hung out with the kiddos, and fit in approximately 700 conversations.

Very grateful that one random message on the internet in 2020 turned into a friendship worth flying to Lubbock for. 🩵
