While conducting biodiversity surveys with my students , a spirited debate unfolded around this particular waterfowl (Anatidae). How do you think this bird is classified in its biological family?

I’m learning a lot along the way. You can only read so much before you have to try it yourself.

Both of these grain bags were inoculated at the same time, I shook up the bottom bag 4 days before I took this picture to see how it would influence mycelial development.

Looking forward to using this grain spawn, and so much more, in my mono-tubs and to make more spawn for garden bed inoculation!

Finally got around to harvesting some wild ganoderma from my neighborhood to colonize some agar plates.

It has been difficult crafting the ideal “elevator pitch” since I’m not working in a traditional classroom full time.

I am passionate about developing regenerative food systems at a local scale.

Right now I’m exploring the possibilities of growing food in my 14th floor, 87 square foot office. Using a vertical hydroponic system and mono tub mushroom cultivating systems I hope to produce enough leafy greens and mushrooms to meet my family’s needs.

This space also doubles as my lab, when I will be able to culture mushrooms strains, inoculate grain spawn, and propagate plants that will eventually be planted outdoors.

My hope is to see similar systems replicated in family homes, schools, and businesses.

Sometimes you gotta embrace the smell of bat guano and earthworm castings…for the plants.

While I try to limit the amount of bagged soil amendments I purchase, when I do I look for the highest quality products I can find.
