I’m excited to share the upcoming launch of The Body Image Group (B.I.G.) Wellness Institute — a collaboration dedicated to advancing body image care in oncology.

Together with Ady Burgida (Kavana Healing Arts Spa) and Jeanna Doyle-Ruhl (Ruhl Beauty), we’re uniting expertise in mental health, oncology aesthetics, and medical massage therapy under one shared mission: to reimagine body image care for people affected by cancer.

The B.I.G. Wellness Institute offers specialized online body image training for oncology healthcare professionals, from introductory courses that equip providers with practical, front-line strategies, to advanced training in mental health, aesthetics, and therapeutic touch.

I am so grateful I had this opportunity to return to the Houston VA to lead this Body Image Workshop and work with these wonderful veterans. Together our workshop participants reflected on body image experiences shaped by illness and survivorship, created meaningful artwork and learned strategies for body image acceptance.

I am so grateful to my co-lead Jennifer Pittsford Art who instructed our group in the use of painting and collage, Amanda Gunzelman, LCSW Survivorship Coordinator Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, and volunteer Rachael Wilson.
