The 2026 Military & Veteran Spouse Wellness Survey is now open!!

This national study, conducted by InDependent and Institute for Military & Veteran Family Wellness at UT Austin, is designed to better understand the lived wellness experiences of military and veteran spouses/partners across all dimensions of wellness. The 2024 survey was the first of its kind, and the findings were significant. Over half of respondents experienced some level of anxiety or depression, rates far above the general population. In addition, 53% struggled to find community or friends, and 22.7% of respondents reported that they felt isolated from others often. This year, IMVFW and InDependent are building on those findings to better understand what this community needs most.

In the aftermath of a crisis or disaster, scammers often target those impacted with fake offers for help, urgent requests, and impersonation scams.

Here’s how to build scam protection into your emergency plan:

✔️ Define essential expenses and what your emergency fund should be used for.
✔️ Know what to look for — scams may look like offers for help, repairs, or official outreach. Be cautious about requests for money, personal information, or a quick decision.
✔️ Prepare a list of official contact information for insurance, utilities, financial help and disaster relief. Always verify sources before you click attachments or links.
✔️ Verify contractors and their insurance independently, especially if they claim to work with your insurer.

⭐ Above all, remember: Scam protection works best before you need it.
