Our Olmos Soccer Club had a fantastic time during their soccer clinic. Our special guests, Mr. Wilmar Aguilar and Mr. Paco Segura are former Lee High School soccer state finalists, No.1 National High School Soccer Team ranked by USA Today 2019-2020. Both are current sophomore students at Incarnate Word University who play for UIW soccer team. Both are also former players for Nimitz M.S. soccer and Mr. Segura is a former Olmos student.

Our soccer club students learned all about the importance of grades, integrity, discipline, and perseverance to achieve their goals. Afterwards, Mr. Aguilar and Mr. Segura hosted a series of circuits to improve soccer technique. The students had a wonderful time! Last week 3rd - 5th grade students stepped into the library and took a trip back in time to learn about Peruvian archeologist Julio C. Tello. Tello is considered the "father of Peruvian archeology" and was the first Indigenous archeologist in South America. Students enjoyed creating their own indigenous artifacts out of clay and comparing their pieces to those that were discovered by Julio C. Tello. North East ISD will close all schools and offices Friday, Feb. 4.

Weather forecasts show conditions are not improving, and there is a high probability of water freezing on roadways overnight as temperatures continue to drop. The morning commute will likely be impacted and many roadways are expected to be closed until at least tomorrow afternoon. In addition, several of our schools are experiencing intermittent power.

Out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of our students and staff in mind, we believe closing is the best option.

All extracurricular activities are also canceled.

Feb. 2, 2022
After monitoring local weather forecasts closely, many of the forecast models are now consistently showing a good possibility of ice accumulation in our area, especially in the afternoon on Thursday. The commute home is a significant concern for our school bus drivers, staff, parents, and thousands of our high school students. We do not want a situation where our students and staff get to school and then cannot safely get home because of hazardous road conditions.

Because of these safety concerns, North East ISD will close all schools and offices on Thursday, Feb. 3. All extracurricular activities scheduled for tomorrow are also canceled.

Just a reminder that we have Early Dismissal today and Thursday, February 3. Please make sure your child is picked up at 12:45. Thank you.

With the possibility of winter weather that could impact our roads, North East ISD is paying close attention to weather forecasts. Since there is a lot that goes into making decisions about whether to close schools, NEISD wants to share how those decisions are made.

We try to let parents and staff know as soon as possible, but weather forecasts constantly change. In the event of inclement weather, a team of people, including the superintendent, executive staff and transportation personnel, drive the roadways starting around 3 a.m. This team drives all different parts of the city to assess the road conditions. Just because an overpass may be closed, does not mean there is not a safe, alternate route that our bus drivers or other motorists can use. We are also in touch with other school districts. Many of our teachers and staff live in other school districts, so if that district is closed, our employees may face childcare challenges and won’t be able to come to work. In addition, nearly a third of our staff live in northern Bexar County.

A decision regarding school closures must be made by 5 a.m. in order to get buses moving and allow ample time for notification of families. Once the decision is made, you will find the announcement in your email, on our District website at neisd.net, as well as on our social media channels. We will also alert local radio and TV stations.

We will always make the best decision we can for our NEISD staff and students with the information we have at that time.
___________________________

What seems impossible is possible when you are an Olmos Owl.
