[12/09/20]   Dear Families,

As parents we expect to raise children to be kind, respectful and obedient as well as have good manners. But many times, unless we teach our children with our own examples how to be kind, children don’t really know. The best thing we can do to make the world a better place is to create a culture of kindness in your own home.

It is quite easy to show children how to be kind but we do need to talk about the topic with children. Kindness is about “seeing with your heart,” explains Angela C. Santomero, author of Radical Kindness: The Life-Changing Power of Giving and Receiving and co-creator of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. For our littlest kids, this might mean patting the back of a worried friend, waving to an elderly neighbor, or breaking a cookie in half to share with a younger brother. For older kids, kindness might be inviting a lonely classmate to join their lunch table, comforting someone who’s sad or scared, or donating some of their allowance to a cause they care about.

Whatever it means to your family, it’s important to help nurture it in your children from a young age. Making our country a kinder place may seem daunting these days, but fostering compassion in your family is entirely doable.

Dear Families,

Thank you so much for your support and patience as we navigate this new territory going on in our lives right now. As most of you probably know by now, the major school districts in our area have extended their school closures until Monday, April 6th. In conferencing with church leadership, the child development center will follow their lead by extending our closure as well.

Decisions like this do not come easy to me, but it is the only responsible thing to do to protect the health of all our families and staff members. I have continued to follow the CDC, Texas Department of Health and Human Services (childcare licensing), spoken to medical professionals, and of course, prayed for clarity. Social distancing is impossible in a preschool setting. All the information I am receiving backs the decision to close. Just to reiterate, we will remain closed until April 6th. I am hopeful our community and world will be in a better state to resume normal activity at this point. We will not be making any additional charges for care beyond those already processed, until we have firm information concerning the date that we will reopen, all families will not be charged for the 1st week of April. I promise to keep you posted if anything changes between now and then.
