The 19th Annual Fabulous Holiday GED Brunch will take place on Saturday, December 5, 2026 at the Rosenberg Skyroom at UIW.

Earning a GED opens the door to stable employment, higher wages, and continued education. As one of our program leaders says, “Obtaining a GED can change an individual, a family, and a community.”

We invite you to be part of that change.

This event raises critical funds to:
• Students pursuing a Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (GED®) throughout the Alamo Colleges District.
• Scholarship support for GED® graduates who choose to continue their education at any of the five colleges or the Alamo Technical Institute through the GED Empowerment to College Endowment.
• Provide students GED® preparation and testing opportunities in both English and Spanish, which are available across the Alamo Colleges District.

Congratulations to Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores on his election to the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Board of Directors for the 2026–2029 term.

In this role, Dr. Flores will help advance the priorities of community colleges nationwide while continuing his commitment to expanding learner success and opportunity at the Alamo Colleges District.

Do you know someone who earned a GED and whose accomplishments in their career/community service should be recognized? Or someone who has helped others to earn a GED or high school equivalency? In 2019, the City of San Antonio reported that 18% of local residents do not have a high school equivalency. This is almost double the national rate of 9.9%. we have much work to do! Those without a GED are at risk of living in poverty.

Thankfully, GED classes through community programs at the Alamo Colleges serve over 700 GED students each year. Since 2008 this group has made it our priority to help those students.

This year, we are excited to welcome as our honoree, Fabian Castillo, Sr. Our committee is incredibly grateful that he will be joining us to be recognized. He has been a fervent support of
education in our community through the Rey Feo organization and has a unique story of success that will surely inspire us all.

🌟 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗘𝗗 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀! 🌟This morning, we celebrated 17 amazing years of the GED Brunch, bringing together friends and advocates to support The Alamo Colleges District students on their journey to earning a high school equivalency diploma.

A huge 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗞 𝗬𝗢𝗨 to everyone who joined us today—your support makes all the difference! Special thanks to the GED Brunch Leadership Committee and our inspiring founding chair, Martha Tijerina, for leading the way with dedication and heart.

It's finally here! ...
"The Ballad of Roy Benavidez."

This truly was a labor of love. We can't thank, author and friend, William Sturkey, enough for his time (about 7 years of research), commitment and dedication towards this book.

For those who'd like to meet him, he'll be in El Campo July 1st for a meet and greet, as well as a Q&A about this book.
