At Will Smith Zoo School, we believe children learn best when they can experience the world with their whole bodies and all their senses. 🌿

The wonder.
The curiosity.
The confidence.
The connection.

Our growing Kindergarten and 1st grade program blends academics, exploration, and real connection to the natural world because these little moments outside become something much bigger. ✨️

Thank you to everyone who came out for our Will Smith Zoo School Alumni Day. It was so special seeing former students back on campus and reconnecting with teachers and old friends.

We loved hearing the memories, watching everyone play together again, and getting to celebrate this community that means so much to us. 🧡💙

A little peek into a day in the life of an elementary student at WSZS 🌿

Learning doesn’t just happen at a desk here. It’s in the garden, on the trail, during questions, discoveries, and all the in-between moments that make childhood what it should be.

Our WSZS Elementary program (Kindergarten + 1st) is rooted in play, exploration, and real-world experiences that help kids grow into confident, curious learners.

We have just a few spots left for next year if you’ve been thinking about it.

A behind-the-scenes moment at San Antonio Zoo 🎨🐠

As the Brewer Ocean Conservation Lab is being built, a new mural is being painted on the Friedrich Aquarium in celebration of its opening. Our students got to help paint alongside artists and learn through the process.

Created by Hawaii-based, world-renowned wildlife artist Patrick Ching, Texas Waters brings to life the journey of water, from the aquifer beneath Texas, through freshwater systems, into the ocean and deep sea, highlighting the interconnected ecosystems that sustain life. Known for his conservation-driven work, Ching designed the mural to both inspire and educate guests about the importance of protecting aquatic environments.

The mural was made possible by Susan Naylor, whose vision and support helped bring this meaningful project to San Antonio Zoo. Naylor, a friend of both the zoo and the artist, played a key role in connecting Ching to the project.

Ching collaborated with artist Gabriel Zarazua and San Antonio Zoo team member Kristi Beach to complete the mural. In addition, students from the Will Smith Zoo School contributed by painting elements of the coral, leaving a lasting mark on the piece and reinforcing the zoo’s commitment to engaging the next generation in conservation.

We can’t wait to see it all come together this summer! 🪸🌊
