North East ISD is aware of Metro Health’s recommendation against in-person instruction. At this time, NEISD does not plan to make any adjustments to our learning models. The District will continue to offer both in-person and virtual learning options for families. The Texas Education Agency requires that school districts offer in-person instruction and will not allow 100% remote learning. In addition, we believe schools are one of the safest places for our students and staff. Our safety protocols are effective, and data shows COVID-19 is not spreading within schools. As always, we will continue to closely monitor health metrics and update you with any developments.

North East Independent School District / Homepage

Dear Northwood Community,

It’s one week until the first day of school. The count down is on! The beginning of this school year looks very different than anything we have ever done before, but I am confident that it is going to be great. The teachers and staff have been hard at work already creating digital platforms to make an engaging and productive virtual learning experience for your children. We are committed to connecting with each child and family and we are here to help and support you through this beginning of the year virtual learning experience.

Our teachers will be hosting individual Zoom meetings for each child and family in their class. They will be calling you on Tuesday to set up a time for Thursday or Friday that they can meet with you and your child. When you get the call on Tuesday, I know you will be excited and want to chat with your child’s teacher, but we are asking for you to please just set up your appointment quickly so the teacher has time to contact everyone. You will have 10-15 minutes on Thursday or Friday where you can “see” your teacher, have a chat, and ask questions.

There will also be a grade level meeting on Friday, where all of the teachers on the grade level will talk to all the parents to review expectations for virtual learning (for students and parents), attendance tracking, overview of technology platforms and a chance to get to meet all of the teachers that your child may be working with this year. Our grade level teams will be working very closely with each other to plan lessons and give instruction. They will follow the same schedules and give the same assignments. The grade level meetings will be at the following times: Grades Kinder – 2nd 2:00-2:30 and Grades 3rd-5th 2:30-3:00. These meetings will be recorded and posted, so if you are not able to come at these times, you can watch the video later.

Please make sure that you have gone into Skyward Family Access at www.neisd.net to ensure that your email address is on your child’s account is correct. Also, your child’s teacher will help you connect to Class Dojo and please “like” our page. For at least 3 weeks, all our communication will be electronic, and we want to make sure that you don’t miss anything.

Be on the lookout soon for another email with tips for setting up virtual learning and grade level schedules.

We are here for you if there is anything you need! Please don’t hesitate to call the school at 210-407-5400 or send an email. We look forward to connecting with you soon.

Stay Healthy,
Mrs. Harper

neisd.net NEISD sets high expectations designed to challenge your child and encourage personal growth and success through credentialed teachers with a passion to ignite your child’s curiosity and learning.

[08/07/20]   On Wednesday 8/5/2020 you should have received an e-mail from NEISD asking you to complete a final survey with your choice for virtual or traditional (face to face) learning for your child/children. This email was sent to “primary guardian” that is listed on your student(s) Skyward Family Access account. If you did not receive the email, please call the school at 210-407-5400, as soon as possible to let us know what your choice is. This information is very important as we make plans for the beginning of year (both virtually and face to face when the time comes). Thank you for your help with this. We look forward to connecting you all soon. More to come on Monday!

[08/03/20]   Dear Northwood Community,

Happy Monday! I hope you all are well. The countdown to the first day of school on August 17 is on and coming quickly! Thank you for your feedback on the surveys about technology needs and back to school decisions in July. I know some of you indicated the need to borrow a device for your child during virtual learning. We would like to distribute those devices sooner rather than later so that you will be ready for the first day of school. We have planned a drive by pick up of devices for this Friday, August 7. Please complete this sign up genius to register for a time on Friday to pick up your devices. We will have the device and lending agreement ready for you, so it should only take a couple of minutes. You will just need to drive up and give us your name. There will be no need to park or get out of your car. If this date does not work for you, we will have another date next week.

The surveys also indicated that most families have high speed internet capability, but there are a few families that do not. A very limited number of Hot Spots (portable Internet connectivity devices) were ordered at the district level and an allotment will be on our campus soon. We know that families have different speeds and levels of internet connectivity and that some students will be going to places where there may not be Internet connectivity. Due to the limited number of Hot Spots we are receiving, we ask that you have the following hardships in order to borrow a Hot Spot: no Internet access where your child will be during the day and limited transportation. If this applies to you, please email me ([email protected]) and explain your situation. We will follow up with you next week.

Please continue to be on the lookout for emails from the district with information about the back to school plan and a final survey asking for a commitment to virtual or traditional (face to face) learning. I will also send out updates with specific learning schedules, meal distribution and meet the teacher opportunities soon.

Take Care and Stay Healthy,
Mrs. Harper
