Congratulations to Laurence Maeyens on being selected as a recipient of the Jess Hay Chancellor’s Fellowship.
Laurence is second-year PhD student in the IBMS Program – Biology of Aging Discipline and is co-mentored by Dr. James Nelson and Dr. Shangang Zhao. His research explores the mechanisms behind dietary restriction, s*x differences in lifespan, and the role of dietary fatty acids in aging. In his letter to the UT System Chancellor, Dr. David Weiss shared that Laurence's work is especially impactful, not only for the health of Texans, but globally, given the growing burden of age-related disease and the urgent need to identify interventions that extend health span.
Laurence will receive $15,000 to put toward his biomedical research endeavors.
