It’s being an honor to attend to the 2019 IDRA EAC-South Region II Convening.
Thank you Paula for the invitation, thank you Arkansas United and Alas/Wings for this big opportunity to learn more about education!!!
I found your organization while searching for information about grade retention. You had an excellent podcast with Dr. Paula Johnson. Still, I don't feel like my main concern has been addressed.
- How do you know if your child is not ready for Kindergarten?
We are facing possible retention with my daughter, who is on the young and immature side. She was struggling with her academics at first but we have been working hard together and she is catching up. Still... her pediatrician says he would have recommended starting her a year later. If a child is not ready for the classroom setting, which she is still struggling with, how is one to know before hand? And once it becomes clear, what are my other options? I know in my gut that she doesn't have a disability, even if she has a genetic condition that indicates she will always be a small person, but we are still getting her tested for one. I just don't see anything anywhere that addresses the issue of what if they just aren't ready?

CON LAS COSAS LINDAS QUE PASAN EN LA FAMILIA
Another novel of intrigues, fictions and realities of Alejandro Marin.
www.cortemoslacarajo.blogspot.com

Jordi Gonorria, economist, cook and amateur detective, and Quito Verdudo, former commissar, run into another mystery. When the son of a winemaker is blame for the murders of his wife and her lover.
Trying to find keys that excuse the accused, our friends walk through the books written by the victim. One that collects histories of famous characters of the Argentine province of Mendoza, linked to the elaboration of wines, masquerades and curiosities.
And another that tells the raids of renowned promoters and adventurers linked to the colossal soccer business.
The story also reveals family secrets, hidden to the shame between the folds of silences and hypocrisies
A story in which fiction and reality come together until it becomes difficult to disassociate them.
In the course of this, our economist enjoys, not without some suffering, the daring and erotic comings and goings of his wife, far removed from what the virtuous good habits preach.
Cooking stories and opinions about economics and economists complete a pleasant and illustrative story.

Thank you Thank you Thank you! The reports on charter school graduation rates and failure rates are very consistent with experience I have seen. Thank you for studying this critical data! We must turn around education in Texas.

We are seeing very consistent progress by helping students communicate with parents in making plans for their personal futures, updating those plans, and putting them all into writing. It all makes a very big difference!

Last night, after two special sessions and despite statewide opposition from hundreds of students, teachers, parents, business leaders, historians and education experts, the Texas Legislature passed SB 3. The new classroom censorship bill moves now to the Governor’s desk for his signature.

“We are disappointed that Texas policymakers spent yet another legislative session on this harmful, copycat policy that attempts to silence teachers, whitewash history, and deny students the opportunity to learn the truth,” said Ana Ramón, IDRA deputy director of advocacy. “We will continue to work with the growing coalitions of individuals and organizations in Texas and across the country who are determined to create safe and culturally-sustaining schools for all students.”

Classroom censorship bills promote a revisionist U.S. history that whitewashes historical and current racial injustices and undermines the past and present experiences of Black, Indigenous, Latino and other communities of color. With this bill in place, students will not learn the content knowledge they need to critically analyze our society or learn how to act as empathetic leaders, advocates and allies in our democracy. They will no longer learn key historical facts or patterns.

Often, people talk about restorative practice as an approach to student discipline. It is true that restorative practices include a reactive component designed to restore relationships by repairing harm. But that is not the best place to start implementing restorative practices in a school.

In this episode, Dr. Paula Johnson, director, IDRA EAC-South, and Terrence Wilson, J.D., IDRA regional policy and community engagement director, describe how restorative practice is proactive in developing community by building relationships and positive school climates that value all students. They describe a range of ways educators can start using restorative practices to create an environment where students want to engage.
