S/O to our amazing Social Studies Dean and his legendary Father 🤗 “Think about the impact he had on the thousands of kids like me without realizing the extraordinary impact he had. Behind every amazing entrepreneur here tonight there is a teacher or teachers who helped make our success happen. Who will never know the important part they played in shaping them as a leader. Please make sure you reach out to the Mr. Hansen’s in your life to thank them.”

Students from Johnson, LEE, and Reagan joined over 900 delegates from in and around the state of Texas to participate in the Central Texas Model United Nations (CTMUN) conference hosted by the University of Texas at Austin this past weekend. The event began on Friday night, November 10th, with the Keynote Speaker, Paul Edgar, PhD, who is the Executive Director of the William P. Clements, Jr. Center for National Security at the University of Texas at Austin. Students were then dismissed to classrooms and auditoriums on the UT Campus where they began their work in one of 24 assigned UN Committees. For the next two days, students grappled with difficult and relevant issues ranging from national security to the environment to Historical Crisis Committees on the Beaver Wars. Students prepared by researching their topics to reflect the views of their assigned countries or people, and submitted position papers to form the basis of collaboration with other delegates. Students gained leadership, communication, and cultural diplomacy skills that will aid them in their futures. They also learned about UT specifically and college in general with tours of the campus. A former NEISD alumnae spent time with some of the students answering questions and giving advice about college.

Special congratulations to Reagan Junior Marcela Oliver Ramirez who won Best Delegate in the French and Iroquois Wars committee room, Junior Gabby Navarro de los Santos who won Best Delegate, and Senior Mia Friedlander who won Honorable mention representing Japan in a Global Crisis simulation of the Chinese efforts to control the South China Sea from the early 2000s.

Additional congratulations to Johnson Senior Olivia Antunes and Sophomore Memphis Robinson who were recognized in their respective committees at the CTMUN Conference. Olivia won Outstanding Delegate in the UN Security Council Committee, while Memphis was recognized as an Honorable Mention for his participation in the GS4: The Philippines Committee.

We appreciate our MUN Teachers for all of their work with students and organizing this amazing experience Kirby Whitehead, Gretchen Wickes, and Daniel Farias!
