Any students testing in April/May are required to attend after-school tutoring.

Students must complete at least 30 minutes of tutoring in a STAAR subject.

Born in Harlem, he used his PERSONAL EXPERIENCES to challenge racism and oppression through ESSAYS like The Fire Next Time and Notes of a Native Son. His novels, including Go Tell It on the Mountain and Giovanni’s Room, BROKE BARRIERS by addressing racial and LGBTQ+ themes.

During the Civil Rights Movement, Baldwin became a KEY voice, ADVOCATING for justice alongside leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
