Hello to all Incoming Freshman and Returning Members!
We are the Society of Automotive Engineers here at UTSA and we are looking forward to starting another great year on campus as well as recruiting many new faces.
Getting involved on campus is essential to the college experience and SAE is not only one of the best ways to get involved but also to learn valuable hands-on skills in the shop that can assist you in your future workplace! Our team participated in the rigorous International FSAE Competition this past June in Las Vegas, NV and are very proud of our performance with the 20-21 Formula Car. That being said, our team is constantly trying to improve our own methods of operation. One method being increasing the number of members we have at the start of each year. This is significant in order to relay all of the valuable information we learned at competition to inform new members of how this team operates and the plans we have in store this year!
For returning members, our team of new officers has been busy constructing the schedule we plan to implement this year for the design and manufacturing of the 2022 car. We will be making a number of improvements for the 2022 Formula Car and will need as many working hands as possible during the coming semesters. If you’re interested in becoming more involved, start thinking of which vehicle sub-system/area you might be interested in (Chassis, Brakes, Powertrain, Suspension etc.)
We will be having our first general meeting on Wednesday, September 1st at 6pm In-Person and Virtually (Look out for email link) and would love to meet new students that are interested in what we do! 2nd Picture is a map to the shop (The Power & Dynamics Systems Lab behind Chaparral Village, next to Sculpture and Ceramics Building).

This week has been a rollercoaster of emotions for the team. We got passed all four parts of tech for the first time in years and ran in 2 of dynamic events. Through the heat everyone stayed strong and kept their heads up. We got 4 times in Autocross and made it 16 minutes in endurance before the car finally died on track due to a leak in the intake boot. As upsetting as seeing our car get towed across the track was, we learned a lot from this year and can’t wait to get the next car on the ground!
