"It’s learning, but it’s fun learning."
Dozens of incoming seventh, eighth and ninth graders are kicking off their summer by learning CPR, practicing surgical preparation and even exploring an ambulance simulator.
This is what hands-on, innovative learning looks like at North East ISD’s Health Science Summer Camp, where students spend two weeks exploring health care careers and discovering Health Science courses they can take in high school.
Many students had no idea NEISD offers state-of-the-art learning spaces designed to mirror real-world healthcare environments, including dental offices, emergency rooms and ambulances.
“It has been a really good balance of fun activities and general learning,” said incoming Johnson High School freshman Audrey Lingham. “I feel like I have learned a lot in these past couple of days being here.”
The camp gives students an early look at the opportunities available at the NEISD Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC), where students can earn industry-based certifications and gain real-world experience before graduation.
These hands-on experiences help students connect classroom learning to future careers while introducing them to high-demand, high-skill opportunities in health care. More importantly, they help students discover new interests, build confidence and begin imagining what their futures could look like.
