You can always make a career in the military playing your instrument! Openings happen all the time in all our service branches for all instruments: concert bands, jazz bands, and even marching bands! Keep working hard!

The U.S. Navy Concert/Ceremonial Band has an immediate vacancy for trumpet!

Applications are due by September 21, and the live audition takes place October 5.

Yesterday was a rap on our band camp! We had over 90 students attend and set the stage for what we feel is going to be a phenomenal year. We are oh so thankful to the Harlan HS Band for sharing their student section leaders (many who are alumni of Straus) to help with region band sectionals and building relationships with our mother school. This is going to be a year to remember! 🖤🐴🪶💙

We are a week away from our Straus Band Camp! Here are some final reminders.

1. Please bring your instrument & supplies, binder, summer music packet that was given out at the end of the year, and a pencil.

2. Please enter through the side of the school at the black gates and then through the cafeteria to the band hall! DO NOT USE THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL FOR ENTRY! Be in place by 9am, band hall will open at 8am.

3. Dress code is school-appropriate wear at all times. Bring a water bottle if you wish.

4. Concert band is excused after 12pm. Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band bring a light lunch each day. In the afternoon, we will be working on Region Band Audition music with the leadership from Harlan HS in sections.

5. Student pick-up will only be in the bus loop by the black gate each day promptly at 3pm.

6. We will have an open rehearsal at 11:30am on Wednesday for any parent who would like to see what we have been working on. This is NOT a formal concert but more of an opportunity to see what we worked on during the camp. Music is similar to what we worked on last year.

We look forward to seeing as many of our students on Monday and getting the music rocking into the new school year. 💙🐴🖤
