Engaging dual language bilingual education (DLBE) educators, students, & families through meaningful presentations, PD, & resources

01/23/2026

What started in December as OLLU clinical teaching induction is now full-on Spring 2026 impact. (Yes, you’re catching some December vibes and January beginnings and that’s on purpose 😉)

Each clinical teacher chose a song for our shared playlist to capture what this Spring 2026 semester has meant to them. Those snapshots are part of the story, too. 🎧💫

Across EC–6, secondary, and all-level classrooms, our interns and residents are showing up with creativity, care, and confidence. Many are also pursuing additional certifications in bilingual education, ESL, and special education, because going the extra mile is kind of our thing at OLLU. 💪📚

Huge gratitude to our partner schools and mentor teachers for opening their classrooms and guiding this next generation of educators. The learning, the growth, the joy… all of it was grrrrreat! 🚌

As my now-adult children’s Colombian grandmother says, “¡Japi Sanguivin!” ¡Feliz día de acción de gracias! ¡Y japi día del pavo! Happy Thanksgiving! No matter how you say it, I’m very thankful to have each of y’all in my life!

🎭✨ From Picturebooks to Playwrights at !
What a joy sharing “From Picturebooks to Playwrights: Students Creating Original Scripts for Teatro de Lectura” 🎬📚

My co-presenters (Diana Maciel-Gordillo & Nora McFarland) from Banning USD were deeply missed, but their contributions were immense. Watching their dual immersion students bring their own words to life through original scripts 🎭 was the perfect reminder of why we do this work. ❤️

We explored how authentic picturebooks can inspire students to become dramaturgos while crafting scripts, performing with purpose, and building 💬 bilingual fluency, creativity, and confidence.

🧠💡 We also modeled the 4+1 language domains: 📖 reading · ✍️ writing · 👂 listening · 🗣️ speaking · ➕ metalinguistic awareness
When students adapt stories through their full linguistic repertoire, comprehension deepens, expression soars, and belonging shines bright. 🌟

So grateful for everyone who joined, laughed, created, and performed with us. ¡Ustedes fueron la obra maestra! 🙌💖

What an energizing start to ! 🎉
As faculty advisor to OLLU BESO, I had the joy of joining the BESO Pre-Conference Institute—a day filled with engaging speakers, inspiring student leaders, and dedicated faculty advisors from across Texas.
From morning sessions to the TABE Board’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, OLLU was proudly represented, and our BESO students brought their trademark energy, leadership, and corazón to every moment. 💙💬

Two days, countless insights, y muchísimos acentos! 🇲🇽💬
Grateful for Riverside County’s powerhouse dual immersion educators—so inspiring to learn, laugh, and grow with. 🙌
Together, we’ve been strengthening our phonological 💡 and metalinguistic 🧠 awareness as we play with Spanish and its acentos.
Ya cuento los días para nuestro próximo encuentro — ¡Día 3, allá voy! 💪🔤✨

🍂🍁🍂Happy Fall, y’all! What is your favorite thing about this new season? I'll be happy to say goodbye to triple-digit temperatures down here in Texas for a few months so I can enjoy our pollinator garden 🌼🐛🌺 providing sustenance for resident and migrating pollinators 🦋🌺🐝 and birds 🐦🌻. Damos la bienvenida a la nueva estación otoñal en el hemisferio norte (y la primavera en el hemisferio sur). El equinoccio sucede cuando el día y la noche tienen la misma duración debido a la ubicación del sol sobre el ecuador. 🎵The song on the video is "Otoño" from Grupo Encanto.

🎉Happy Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month! Always such a wonderful month for expanding our knowledge and advocacy. Plus I love that this "month" is so unique by starting mid-September and going to mid-October.

Some may be torn about having "months" or "weeks" or "days" to celebrate or honor certain groups, because we should be doing the work 365 days of the year. And that is absolutely true. This month is NOT the only time to celebrate and honor Latinx/Hispanic heritage. It is a time of intention and dedication to highlight Latinx/Hispanic heritage. Until our systems and practices truly value those who have been historically and politically marginalized, these dedicated and intentional times of honoring are more important than ever, ¿no?

What is your favorite part or activity to do this month with students, friends, or family?
