At MKU, we take even our youngest children seriously as capable human beings. Their teachers observe closely, respond intentionally, and create an environment where each child has the time and space to develop at their own pace. There’s no need to rush the next milestone or constantly direct the experience. The adult’s role is to know when to support, when to invite, and when to simply let the child do the work of growing.

Because even before they can tell us what they’re learning, they’re learning all the time. 💗

Sometimes the best way to help a child is to stop helping.

It’s faster to pour it for them. Clean it for them. Carry it for them. Put it away for them. Fix it when they struggle. But independence is built in all those little moments when we resist the urge to step in and give children the time, tools, and trust to do it themselves.

Show them how. Prepare the environment. Then let them do it.

Before the first steps come hundreds of little discoveries. 💗 Reaching, grasping, pulling up, balancing, and trying again are all part of how infants learn what their bodies can do.

In a Montessori infant environment, movement isn’t rushed or directed. The environment is thoughtfully prepared to give babies the freedom and support to move, explore, build confidence, and develop at their own pace. We prepare the environment, and they show us what they’re ready to do.
