Jasleen’s Freestyle Poomsae Journey Day 6
One of the 5 Required Skills: Acrobatic Kicking
Today, we’re working on another one of the five required technical elements in Freestyle Poomsae: Acrobatic Kicking.
Typically, this element combines an acrobatic movement, such as a roundoff backflip, with a kick.
For Jasleen’s routine, we’re working on a variation of the technique, adapting the movement while keeping the acrobatic element and kicking action connected.
The challenge is making everything flow as one movement while maintaining control, balance, timing, and presentation.
We’re building this Freestyle Poomsae one element at a time.
Another skill added. One step closer to August 29.

Essential Jump Drill
Working on your Yeok Turn?
Before attempting the full kick, build the jump and rotation first.
This essential drill helps develop the jump, balance, body control, and reverse rotation needed for the 360° Reverse Roundhouse Kick.
Focus on getting enough height, controlling your body in the air, and becoming comfortable rotating in the opposite direction.
Don’t rush the full technique.
Build the jump. Feel the rotation. Then add the kick.

Sometimes, one photo can bring back a moment that changed everything.
Back in 2009, I was seriously thinking about quitting college. I wasn’t sure about my future, so I went to Professor Jung Heon Kim for advice.
His advice was simple: “Don’t quit.”
Through his recommendation, I was given the opportunity to become an intern instructor at Tiger Kim’s World Class Taekwondo. That opportunity eventually brought me to the United States and became part of the journey that led me to where I am today.
Looking back, I realize that if I had given up at that moment, I may never have seen the opportunities that were waiting ahead.
Sometimes we get so focused on the difficulty right in front of us that we forget to look at the bigger picture.
If you’re going through a moment when you feel like giving up, keep going.
You may not see where the road is leading yet.
You may not know what opportunity is coming next.
Never Give Up.
And a special thank you to Professor Jung Heon Kim. I will always be grateful for the advice and opportunity that helped change the direction of my life.
