It’s only Tuesday but we’ve already had so many adventures! It’s interesting to watch the dynamic develop over the course of the week and even on day two campers are becoming more confident and new friendships are forming. I’m excited to see how a change of scenery will impact the group tomorrow. Stay tuned!

We climbed over big rocks in the creek and found a beautiful picnic spot today. Campers built a fort inside the redwood fairy ring and we collected many feathers!

We had a busy day soaking up the beauty of nature today! Campers were top chefs in our mud kitchen and we even made mud paint using our mortar and pestle. Everyone had a turn in the hammock and while some wanted big swings, others chose to lay peacefully and watch the birds up in the canopy. A big tree made the perfect perch for watching life on the lake.

We had an adventurous first day of camp in Fairfax today! We explored the creek, saw turtles at the lake, and found a sweet spot for our picnic lunch.

At Snails & Turkey Tails, we believe young children deserve access to meaningful nature-based early childhood experiences - regardless of financial circumstance. Childhood belongs outdoors. In muddy boots, under redwood canopies, turning over logs, following curiosity, building confidence, and forming deep relationships with the natural world and one another. Our small nature school program is committed to keeping our class intentionally intimate while also working toward greater accessibility through sliding scale tuition options. We know that families come from many different financial realities, and we hope this model helps make gentle, outdoor-centered early childhood education available to more children in our community. Our small class allows for deep connection, growing confidence, and big outdoor adventures. Applications for the 2026/27 school year are open now.

Snails & Turkey Tails nature summer camps are full of play and adventure and we always have some sort of vision that we bring to every week. In August will be exploring the world of birds and we’ll learn what it means to be a wilderness explorer. We go on gentle hikes - learning as we go, but also spending time going on daily deep dives, discovering fun facts about every little part of nature. Our August camps meet at China Camp State Park and in Fairfax at Lake Lagunitas and we’d love to have you join in the fun!

We decided to try something a little bit different in July and have decided to run small group camps of just six campers! This is a great way for our youngest campers to have their first summer camp experience, for a group of friends and family to come together for a week of fun in nature, or for anyone who thrives in a small group setting. Each week we explore new topics and in July we will be exploring life on land, water and in the sky!

Every week, Snails & Turkey Tails summer campers go on a deep dive into a different part of the natural world, earning wilderness explorer badges that they create themselves!
