As the Texas heat starts cranking up, we get asked this question a lot: “Should I shave my double-coated dog for the summer to keep them cool?” The short answer? Nope! 🛑 It sounds backwards, but that thick undercoat actually acts like built-in insulation! It traps cool air against their skin and protects them from getting sunburned or overheating. Shaving them can actually ruin their coat's natural ability to regulate their temperature.

Instead of shaving, what they really need to beat the heat is a deep deshedding treatment to blow out all that dead, trapped undercoat so the air can circulate! 💨🐾

Let’s Talk Line Brushing! 🛁🪮 (How to beat the mats!)
Caption: We love seeing your pups looking fluffy, but when those sneaky mats get too close to the skin, sometimes a shorter "reset shave" is the safest and most comfortable choice for your fur baby. ❤️

Want to help keep your pup’s coat long, fluffy, and tangle-free between salon visits? The secret is a technique called Line Brushing!

Here is how to do it at home in 3 easy steps:

1️⃣ Separate the hair: Don’t just brush the top layer! Use one hand to push the coat up so you can see a "line" of bare skin.
2️⃣ Brush from the skin out: Gently brush small sections of hair downward from the skin to the tips using a slicker brush.
3️⃣ The Metal Comb Test: Once you think you're done, run a metal greyhound comb through the coat from root to tip. If it catches, there’s still a tangle hiding in there! 🕵️‍♂️

✨ Groomer Tip: Pay extra attention to high-friction spots like behind the ears, the armpits, and where their collar or harness sits.
