This past Friday, we were honored to host the Texas Choral Directors Association’s High School Leadership Day in San Angelo. It was a joy to welcome outstanding student leaders from across the region for a day of learning, leadership, and meaningful connection. Investing in the next generation of music educators and choral leaders is always time well spent.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jessica Rosas Posada and Mack Fox for hosting and to Landon Gilmore and Wendy Mitchell Weeks for sharing your wisdom, experience, and passion with these students. Your impact was evident throughout the day. Special thanks as well to Travis Baldwin for the countless hours spent coordinating High School Leadership Day across multiple sites throughout Texas. Your dedication and behind-the-scenes leadership made this wonderful experience possible.

We are grateful to TCDA for the opportunity to be part of this important initiative and look forward to continuing to support the future of our profession.

Congratulations to Angelo State University student Natalie Bowles for being one of only 4 young students chosen to perform in a Distinguished Artist Masterclass in Italy 🇮🇹 with Andrey Baranov, winner of the 2012 Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition—widely regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious and demanding violin competitions. Baranov is an internationally acclaimed soloist who has performed on some of the world’s greatest stages and earned top prizes in numerous international competitions. Bravo, Natalie, on representing ASU with excellence! We are proud of you and look forward to all that lies ahead. 🎻🎻🎻

Our ASU string students had an unforgettable experience visiting Cremona, the violin capital of the world! 🇮🇹🎻

During our visit, we had the privilege of spending time with master luthiers Pasquale Sardone and Luiz Amorim, and we were especially excited to return the violins of Natalie Bowles and Dr. Fagner M. Rocha to the hands of their makers for a quick visit back home.

Next stop - a 2 week music festival in the Piedmont mountains 🎻🎻🎻

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that retired ASU Professor of Music, Dr. Clarence "Ed" Surface, passed away yesterday, June 17, 2026. Tentative arrangements are for July 1 at 10 am at Harper Funeral Home, with burial following at Fairmount Cemetery.
