Slight feeding mishap last night with Sir William. He is about to shed again and his eyes are foggy. I use feeding tongs but he missed the mouse, circled back and the mouse fell from the tongs just as he was going for it. He knicked my thumb instead.

He's fine. I'm fine. He's eating and I am definitely going to change how he feeds during brumation.

Fun fact: Kingsnakes are nonvenomous and are not hostile towards humans, usually even when provoked. They have no fangs, but I have learned that they have tiny little razor things on their gums.

Desert Kingsnake fun facts:

1. They have no teeth! They are constrictors. They strike quick and latch onto their prey then quickly wrap themselves around it to crush/squeeze it. It is then swallowed whole in small increments. From observation, this can take anywhere from one minute to twenty.

2. Kingsnakes eat other snakes: in particular rattlesnakes. They are also immune to their venom.

3. As a defense mechanism, desert kingsnakes will shake their tails like the rattlesnake to let you know they are irritated. You can hear it but it's not as prominent and kingsnakes do not have rattles.

Sir William often let's me know he doesn't want any attention lol.

Have a great weekend! 💚🐍💚
