Campus Champions Monthly Update 🏆

These are the top 5 campuses for tutors who’ve joined The WHIT Program!

Here’s where things stand right now:
🥇 Angelo State University: 41 tutors
🥈 Texas A&M University: 25 tutors
🥉 Texas Tech University: 24 tutors
4️⃣ Texas A&M Corpus Christi: 19 tutors
5️⃣ Texas Woman’s University: 18 tutors

Angelo State is in the lead, but the race for second is close. Every tutor who joins helps their campus climb and makes a real difference for the students they support. 📚

We’re so proud to celebrate our founder, Jennifer Lisson, on being named a Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) Angels in Adoption® Honoree for her work with The WHIT Program! 💙

Jennifer was nominated by Congressman August Pfluger and honored in Washington, D.C., alongside other champions for children and families from across the country.

Celebrating with her was Jeff Lisson, The WHIT Program’s VP and Legal Counsel. We’re grateful for the leadership and heart that make this work possible.

Meet our WHIT Tutor Spotlight for September!

Leela Bindingnavele

“I'm a junior biomedical engineering student at Texas A&M University in College Station, and I was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas!

The thing that first drew me to being a WHIT tutor was working with a couple of students who used to be in the foster care system at Mathnasium. During their time in the foster care system, their frequent moves made it hard to keep up in school. The WHIT Program gives me the opportunity to help my students catch up and not fall too far behind in the first place, which makes their success far more attainable. Also, I absolutely love the kids I get to work with!!

My favorite thing about being a WHIT Tutor is watching my kids grow. Like any tutor who loves their job, I absolutely love the "ah-ha" moment. However, the WHIT Program lets me experience some other moments that are impactful in different ways, such as hearing about my kid coming out of their shell and making new friends in school or seeing the pictures from their first Homecoming dance. The reason why I joined the WHIT Program was for the "ah-ha" moment, but these new experiences are the reason why I'm never leaving!”

A huge thank you to Texas A&M University’s Honor Program Honors Academy and Chancellor Glenn Hegar Glenn Hegar — for such a meaningful and memorable visit!

It was an honor to be joined by Dean of the Honors Program Dr. Jon Kotinek, Jen, Adjunct Professor of TAMU Law School David Halpern, TAMU Chancellor Glenn Hegar, TAMU Vice Chancellor James Hallmark, and 2026 Tutor of the Year Devkumar Banerjee.

The WHIT Program connects volunteers with foster youth who need one-on-one tutoring and mentorship — and honestly, it changes both lives, not just theirs.

You don’t need to be a teacher. You just need to show up and care. The WHIT Program trains you, supports you, and gives you everything you need to work with your student — you bring the willingness.
